He said where possible.

If it's not possible, use it.

Throws up sizeable problems if you live in a large city though, and I live in the UK’s biggest. Unless you’ve got a bike and somewhere to store it, if you work in the centre of London, as hundreds of thousands of people do, there’s only one realistic means of getting there - public transport. Even on a quiet day the Northern Line near where I live, is a giant Petrie dish. I’m one of the lucky ones who’ll be working from home for the moment, but it’s not hard to envisage a pretty large surge in the infection rates if a significant number of people have to return to their workplaces this week

Presumably tomorrow there will be clarification of how far you can drive. As things stand if you drive to Wales or Scotland from England you could be arrested. He did use the phrase: "drive to other destinations."

They are mustard round here, we got pulled and got the Spanish inquisition coming back from the shops. Decent coppers though doing their job.

I conveniently missed off nothing, I provided the direct quote, none of which insisted on SD if you cannot work from home.

“So, work from home if you can, but you should go to work if you can’t work from home.”

There; some instructions to help you with breathing.

Unions don't pay wages though, do they? Once the rate of pay with the furlough scheme is reduced then people will have to get back to work.
I think the government have listened to the unions to be fair as Boris seemed to say that 1° school Reception may return from 1st June, then Year 3 and 6 may return a week or two later in June and also that Years 10 and 12 may have some time in school before the Summer holidays. But then years 2 4 5 7 8 and 9 may not be back until September. This is the sort of thing that the conditions talk about. Not all staff will need to be in each day at education establishments and some of us can still work from home if we aren’t teachers.

Missed it. Anyone give a decent summary of what's changed? Who's going back to work? What's going on with retailers/cafes etc?
Cafes end of june bars end of aug sept, 5 aside footy end of june , exercise unlimited but only with family member ,anyone working in construction industry and people who cant work from home can return to work.
Clear as mud!:))

Genuinely feel sorry for the people who will be crammed onto public transport as workplaces will demand your return. ‘If Bob can come into work so can you Shelia’ etc guilt tripping.

Workplaces have to show consideration and reasonableness.

Why mate?

I was working on the basis that you can go out and play sport, but only if it’s with a member of your own household. If it’s the case then that you can only go out socially with members of your own household, I would suggest that visiting other households (even if they’re your relatives) is off the cards. Poor that he didn’t mention it though, as it was something half the country was probably waiting to have clarified

Quarantine, but not if you're coming from France!! So, basically, the whole of Europe can traipse in, unchecked. What could possibly go wrong...

Well I was shocked. I was expecting little current change but a road map of criteria for some future change, instead it was back to work tomorrow if you can, and a timeline of schools returning etc.

Some people will be completely bewildered because the stay at home message has well and truly gone...in England. A bit of a cock-up for different home countries to be sending out different messages.

The media and politicans really didn't prepare people very well for that. Much more change than I expected. We're going back, even if there's no transport to get us back.

I don't object to what I heard. For me this is an apolitical issue. It is pretty clear though that the UK is on a completely different track to most European countries re Covid19. We're following the USA and striking out and seeing where it takes us whilst most other countries are trying to beat it right down before returning. Were going to use contact and tracing to keep it under control and co-exist alongside an infection.

I feel a little bit sorry for some people who will be psychologically unprepared for work but will now be quite worried.
