We have heard a few stories of Pep and Txiki talking to some of the targets we’ve signed, sure ZZKDB mentioned it, Aouar being the latest apparently. It’s common practice speak to the player and agent to see if they are interested before making offers. No point at all getting sanctimonious about it happening to us.
I'm talking about the lengths to which they did it out in public, in the media, all summer long last year. I wasn't being sanctimonious, I was defending the club, on a City forum, from some bayern twat calling us a rigged club.

Let Sane go, get the best deal we can without lowering ourselves to other clubs standards and move on to bigger and better things.
Great post, and really it can be boiled down to just this one line. I don't know what it is about this particular saga that's caused people to absolutely lose their minds.

While I would categorize Bayern's conduct in the media as distasteful I don't consider the basic behind the scenes recruitment/contact with agents as miles away from our own work in the transfer market, nor is it wrong. We don't own these guys, we don't own their careers. It's our job as a club to make people want to be here, not to force people. Clubs reach out to intermediaries and agents all the time to gauge interest around moves, how happy they are, etc. How, exactly, do you think we convinced Rodri to come last summer? He was a player under contract at Atleti, right? Did we just show up at the La Liga offices and pay the fee without "tapping him up"? Just make the deal and move on.

Did we conduct a coordinated public campaign to unsettle a player?

Bayern had to issue an apology for their conduct for fuck sake.

Lads doing backflips to make apologies for a bastard club that has purposely set out to undermine us since we got a few quid.

Check yourselves lads

Cheers:
Currently, under FIFA and FA transfer rules, if a club wants to procure the services of a player registered with another club, they must speak directly with that club and not to the player or his representatives. The player and his representatives will only be brought in for discussions with the potential purchasing club once the two clubs have agreed a fee.

Often a club wishing to buy a player from another club will contact the player directly to try and persuade him to join them should a bidding war for that player ensue. Also, if the club wishing to sign the player feels his current club would be unwilling to sell, they may contact the player to unsettle him at his current club and thus persuade him to hand in a transfer request.

I believe Bayern has been tapping up Sane. That's my opinion
How exactly do you think we convinced Rodri to sign last summer? Because it wasn't by talking to Atleti.

lol, nope, they weren't. There were multiple reports of such last summer. They even stripped his kit number and gave it away prior to him even leaving the club.
They accepted the transfer. He had a while left on his contract.

Did we have a public campaign to unsettle the player?

Yes , didn’t mean you in particular being sanctimonious, just fans in general thinking everyone else does it but not us.

Wow, you assume I'm not a Man City fan just because I don't share the fairytale that Bayern are breaking some rule? As I said, the English FA tapping up rules do not apply for an international transfer. Had it been Liverpool instead, it'd be tapping up, but since Bayern aren't an English club they (almost definitely) haven't broken any rule.

You're free to call it unethical, my friend, but it certainly isn't illegal.
I never mentioned "tapping up", I said he's under contract and well paid by City, so he shouldn't be talking to another club, any other club, he's free to do it in the last 6 months of his contract, but that isn't yet.

My point remains that there's no rule that prohibits him from doing so, as long as the interested club lets Man City know in writing. So you can say he's free to do it now. Whether you find this unethical or not is a completely different story.

Have we ever had to apologise for our conduct in a transfer dealing?

They've even pissed off Pep with their carry on

Sane used Bayerns doctor for his knee surgery, pissing Pep off even more

You are missing my point completely, I'm not interested in bayerns bit, just Sane, if he is talking to them, then he will be in breach of his well paid contract with City, its unprofessional.

Anyway you've not said who your team is, and just putting ManCity in your username proves absolutely nothing about that, you've so far only posted in this thread, and only about Sane and bayern, you're not posting from the UK not that that proves anything as despite the negative press we get, we do actually have supporters in other countries.

And what exactly would you gain by that? Let's see, on one hand you'd have missed out on 50m, have to pay Sane's salary for one season, set a big red flag to players contemplating signing for Man City, and Bayern still get their man in the end. Do you think it's worth doing all this just out of spite, because Man City would be the biggest losers in this scenario.

Sane’s on a relatively low salary and we’d probably have to pay any replacement more, so that’s a redundant argument, and I don’t think it would be that big a red flag to potential signings, because this sort of scenario is only ever likely to occur when you get down to the last 12 months of a contract, and normally a new contract or a transfer request would be forthcoming some 18 months before that. On this occasion - and purely IMO - Munich have behaved like complete cnuts, and Sane has encouraged it all the way down the line. If a £50m bid came in, I reckon City would fold for precisely the reasons you state, but at £35m I’d just as soon call Sane’s bluff and hope that he would be professional enough to give his all - and we are certainly a better balanced and more threatening team/squad with him in it.
Who do you support by the way? The name would suggest City, but the phraseology referring to us as Man City is slightly odd

If such a clause exists in Sane's contract that prohibits him from talking to other clubs, then it would be an illegal clause and I don't think anyone here has a copy of his contract either.

Look, everybody buys players from other clubs. We do, others do as well. You can't take it against a player simply because he wants to move to a top club in his homeland. If there's any shred of evidence that any irregularities exist, then I'd back you up, but at this point it would be a bold claim to say there were irregularities.

Without having read your response before posting myself, I drew the same inference re who Mr ManCityLibat supports. Either we’re both barking up the wrong tree, or......

It's funny how upset they all get about it, I just genuinely don't get it. They all put it down to money but that doesn't make sense because we're not exactly shy as a club about paying players well when they've earned it (e.g. KDB, Sterling, Laporte, Bernardo and Ederson). There's not even a consideration it might be a personal or family reason which he doesn't want to be in the public domain, it's just all out rage because he dares to leave our club. It's sad and pathetic that they're happy to go with the trial by media for Sane but hate trial by media when it's the media persecuting the club in relation to FFP.

Erm your chairman every single day giving comments to everyone that he wants him/is sure he will get him ,from May till we slapped him down later in the summer or do you not read the papers or watch any media ? He also had to then in turn slap down your manager and the media

Sane has a contract with us,we have to give him permission to talk to bayern
