Star Wars - Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker

The reason why I dislike 2 the most is because they were pushing this Anakin/Padme love story so much and I just wasn't buying it. I'm not sure if the dude who played teenage Anakin was just a poor actor or if the lines he was fed were just that bad. Probably a bit of both. The overall premise of 1 was fine for me, but again, the acting, the over the top CGI stuff just ruined it. I also don't think we needed a whole film dedicated to a 9 year old Anakin.

Lucas cannot write, and yes, Christensen is wooden as hell.
Then merchandising interests drowned the whole thing with CGI and it got steadily worse.

Solo has some good twists -- you just have to get it out of your head that this isn't Harrison Ford. Woody Harrleson is great in it too.

I like Rogue One because it's gritty. It's about moral conflict and sacrifice -- and actually has something to say about it. Yet still has some good characters, some funny lines, all the action, bad guys you don't like, etc. And it ties so neatly into IV.

I guess a big problem, other than Ford's shadow, is that you know Solo can't die.

The campaigning robot annoyed me more than anything else.

My favourite was actually the dude who played Kylo Ren, mostly because he was the character with the most depth. We got to know his background, watched his conflicting emotions - he played that part really well. I didn't mind Rey's character, and Finn was fine too, I just needed more depth to them, which we only started getting with Rey towards the end of 9. I try not to criticise films to deeply and get nit-picky with them, but I can't imagine how frustrating it must have been to be a Star Wars fan in the last 40 years, having spent so many years waiting for these films.

Yes, it was his story, with suddenly invented Force powers appearing all over the place which were just silly.

I find Driver quite a cold actor, but he's miles ahead of the others.
I didn't think Rey had a character, apart from sticking her chin out defiantly! The number of times she runs off to do something alone, despite all the talk and previous experience...
Finn had nothing to do for two films, and might have been better served if General Phasma had killed him (just before SuperDroid beat up an entire platoon). His sole purpose in the last film was because someone thought "cavalry on a spaceship!".

I thought IX was going wrong at the crawl - introducing the return of Palpatine in the crawl was lazy in the extreme. Show, don't tell.

Looks like you got there first regarding the Mandalorian!

I think there is the basis of a really good trilogy there with the Prequels. Despite the terrible writing and some cringe-inducing acting, there are some plots (particularly Palpatine's arch) which are really good. I think they also did a good job of showing the corruption and hypocrisy of the Jedi in the late Republic era.

The question I ask anyone after they have watched the Sequel trilogy is: are we in a better position at the end of Rise of Skywalker, than we were at the end of Return of the Jedi? There is only one answer to that.

Well, the Emperor is dead, and we have only Gold Jedi, and some mulling about what the hell the title meant.
There's also an incredible amount of scrap metal on Exegol.

He basically says weird creepy inappropriate things to a really hot chick and they have babies. It's basically someone living out a fantasy

The stories are Lucas would keep directing them to deliver their lines so woodenly. Plus the script is terrible.

I watched Rise of skywalker last night and although I enjoyed it for all the effects what really annoyed me was the fact that the most powerful sith ever was smashed by a young girl who hardly could control her power. The film was so corny in the end it got a bit embarrassing. Growing up I was a big fan but now it has left a sour taste in my mouth .

The Mandalorian is set a few years after Return of the Jedi. 'Baby Yoda' is merely one of Yoda's species, who have never been officially named (in order to maintain the mystery around Yoda). People just call the child 'Baby Yoda.'

As it is set after ROTJ, the Stormtroopers and Moff Gideon are one of the Imperial Remnants that formed in the political vacuum after Palpatine's death (yes, he did die on the Second Death Star, regardless of what Disney would have us believe). Moff Gideon must have been a high ranking Imperial official, as he has a version of the title that Tarkin had in A New Hope and Rogue One (Grand Moff).

Interestingly - *spoiler alert* - it has been linked in the past few days that Disney have hired Temuera Morrison (the actor who played Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones) to play Boba Fett in the second season of The Mandalorian. So, he evidently got out of the Sarlacc pit at some point!
Thanks for clearing that up.

Until i got Disney+ i had never heard of the Mandalorian.
So didn't need or want to watch it. Watched it and thoroughly loved it.
Thought the Mandalorian was cool with a great voice.
Then he removed his helmet and the illusion was destroyed!

Say what you want about the prequel series but it actually added something, had clear direction with the story it wanted to tell despite the somewhat clunkiness of its delivery.
The sequel trilogy went in blind, force awakens was ok and could have been a good set up movie but they literally dropped everything set up in it in the last Jedi, because they hired that charlatan Rian Johnson, who should never work again for his character assassination of Luke. This left the final movie trying to solve problems and they shoehorned palpating in, which makes the whole prequel and original trilogy pointless.

The sequel trilogy is NOT canon in my head and I hope they wipe it from canon and try again with a decent story. Or do it in tv.

While this guy has done a lot of these and they're uneven, his one on The Rise of Skywalker is pretty funny . . . "the Power Ranger Poe used to date", LOL.

I could have written some of that, with rather less panache obviously!

"to extend the running time" - nice.

Zori was weirdly put in - I wonder what Keri Russell thought she was signing up for? Mostly just part of the first hour of what-the-hell-is-going-on.

Tried three times to watch it. Never made it much past the bit where Leia is walked off to do in Kylo. Bits of the movie are okay, but so much of it is just so very awful in so many ways. Why did they decide Poe had to be a straight up Han Solo knock-off? The bit where OMG Chewies dead, oh wait he's not, the timing is so shit. It's a literal slap in the face for most viewers - shut up and watch your favourite characters and explosions you morons. There's the whole thing that the emotional arc of this story seems to depend on Daisy Ridley's need for her family... but it's based on what? Some awkward moment where a random alien kid asks her what her family name is? How does that drive an entire story? It's not even enough to drive a sub-plot. Compare that to Luke in ANH, he's at an age where he needs to break away from his Aunt and Uncle, and the relationship is fraught. He goes off, finds that the local legendary Kenobi is actually a friend of his father? Who was a Jedi? They faught in a war together, and now he's been sent a message by droids sent by a princess saying they need him, he's their only hope? Holy shit! But Luke realises his aunt and uncle are now in danger, and rushes back to find they are dead? And Luke goes on to fight the guy who he believes killed his father? That's a story, that's a saga. Starts at the beginning of film one and ends at the end of film three. Drives it constantly. The Daisy Ridley thing is just a joke. She's some random. Her enemy wasn't. But they have to get together... why again? I literally can't remember any of why they got together then fucked it off in number two, and I've seen it twice. But ok so Palpatine's still around and pulling the strings??? How??? Fuck all that. She's his granddaughter? It changes fuck all. Oh so she and Ren are a Force Dyad? Why? There's nothing there at all that is relatable to family relationships, relatable to other stories, relatable to myths and legend. It's just GARBAGE. They had a start and just made it up as they went along, and did a really bad job of it. None of it, beyond Ben and Han, drives anything or hooks the audience or ties the whole thing together. Total amateur hour. Ugh.

Well, the good thing about what has happened to 'SW' is that Kathleen Turner is pretty much done and will be removed from any further involvement. The other good news is the next set of films in the franchise will be based 3,500 years prior to 'SW' as 'The Knights of the Old Republic', which has been called upon for years.

I believe the writing has begun already and it's a chance to give the fans what they've craved for.
