I have heard the phrase ‘Use your common sense’ quite a bit these past couple of days. Pity that a huge number of this country lack this. New guidelines are simple to follow if you read and listen to what has been said. Is there a correlation between those people on furlough who are being paid whilst flouting the rules and the fact that furlough payments may be reduced and these people might have to work? I understand that everyone has their own specific lifestyle but we are talking about guidelines for 66m people and there will always be anomalies. Media has been banging on about easing lockdown and now they are shit stirring saying it’s confusing when it’s not unless you are being a total arse or if you have a shoe size larger than your IQ
A large element of this is true. We as a family have been adhering strictly to the rules and have apllied common sense. But many haven't been. I have heard of several people working in the construction industry in close proximity to each other travelling in the same vehicles and working on non essential jobs on people's private homes from the beginning. A friend told me that over the long weekend he saw cafes open in parts of manchester, with lots of people mixing. I have heard reports of people still attending mass gathering in places if worship. Families are still mixing at weekends with no social distancing. These are the idiots that will prolong this awful disease not the majority that stick to the rules and use common sense. The Kyle walkers of this world who think they can have parties get admonished and then still go round and see their families and hug them. These are the idiots and no ammount of clear instruction will ever get through to these people.

She's awful. She was on the Scott Mills show, a light hearted radio show on R5L a few weeks ago and even then she was vile.
It wasn't even a political interview, she was talking to an artist who was drawing some pictures for the NHS. She opened with "Wow, you're clever" in the sort of tone you'd use for a small kid who's just had his first dry night.

One thing Whitty said is that he thinks it could be as low as 4% of the population that has had the virus.
Are we doing any random testing of the population to get a more accurate figure? We should have enough test kits if we're handing out 100k each day to specific groups, most of whom are already symptomatic or work in areas where they are more likely to be infected.

Most on furlough will be barely getting enough to cover their bills so a trip to the Trafford Center might not be a priority right now.
I doubt the above.

(a) when the tax is considered, 80% of your gross pay = more than 80% of your net pay.
(b) many employers are making up the 20%
(c) many people had more than enough money to cover bills previously and can well stand a small drop in income
(d) no-one's going to the pub or wherever else they may have normally frittered their money away.

So I suspect *most* people are managing fine financially. Some will not be obviously and I don't mean to gloss over any hardship, but I just thought it worth saying that I am sure most people are not struggling to cover their bills.

and some are managing more than fine. Furlough applies to private sector, public sector like teachers are on 100% pay.

if you are a Scot or Welsh they should also change the slogan to

stay home off work - get pissed - the English are paying.

With who? Who in their right mind wants to be spending what little money they have on stuff they don't need whilst being in a crowded environment?

Who in their right mind would be congaing down a street to celebrate VE at the moment? That happened. Coincidentally, that video was from Warrington, so the exact kind of person that goes to the Trafford Centre. It'd be that same lot down shopping immediately if they were given the green light, or all the people who've been visiting family anyway during this, or all the people who ignore the social distancing stuff in shops. There's tonnes about who think that this will just blow over and isn't that big a deal. The fact that the 5G stuff made the mainstream news says it all about the level of intelligence in this country. I really don't think we're any better or different to the Aussies.

That’s because teachers have not been furloughed and are working from home. People working from home in the private sector are on 100% pay as well.

You’re about the third or fourth I’ve seen with this xenophobic attitude to the other nations of the UK. Coincidentally (or maybe not), all outspoken Brexiteers who seem to exude English exceptionalism.

the point is not what teachers do it’s about whether people are struggling or not.

public sector workers are on 100% pay

Furloughed private sector workers are on 80% pay ( some being topped up to 100%)

the level of protection from the state is sufficient to say people are not on suffering as a consequence of the state , relative to where they were before.

indeed you could argue it’s a generous impediment to people returning to work.

The idea that the Scottish and Welsh are happy to sit home whilst the proud English go out to save the economy is one that all the rabid patriots can get behind.
Not necessarily KHW, but plenty of others.

There is that.......

there is nothing xenophobic about it whatsoever , stop it with your racist, xenophobic shite and think for a moment instead of jumping I with a boring lazy argument

it’s simple common sense .

if you have devolved administrations telling people to stay home and not go back to work absolutely fine no problem good for them, it’s a devolved power, do as you like

however if the English are told to go back to work now so not therefore relying on furlough scheme any longer it seems wrong doesn’t it .

The devolved powers should be free to extend the stay at home if they like but they should not rely on the central pot to pay for it. That cost should fall on the devolved administrations as well. It’s hardly a difficult concept.

as Spider-Man’s dad said. With great power comes responsibility.
