No evictions for three months - likely to continue for longer
The government announced last week renters would not be allowed to be evicted for three months.
Housing secretary Robert Jenrick told Sky News' Kay Burley@Breakfast the government is passing emergency legislation at the moment which "brings a moritorium to evictions for the next three months".
He said renters will not be able to be taken to court or forced out of their home.
The government has arranged a £3m holiday for buy to let landlords so they have a mechanism to go to their own bank to ask for a mortgage holiday.
He added that the government is working with the judiciary and has asked all courts and judges to ensure public health comes first.
Addressing concerns those affected by coronavirus could be evicted after the three months, he added: "It's unlikely if you're going to be turfed out of your home after that three months.
"Landlords, please do the right thing, support everybody through this time - certainly those on the frontline in the NHS.
