Sounds a bit like what we'll do (tying ourselves to long term debt) except with higher interests rates because we haven't the AAA rating the EU has.
Yep, and if the EU was simply intending to bulk buy debt using the advantages of its AAA rating and pass on to members with no strings I'd applaud it.

Hmmm - I am tempted to copy a few of the posts that I have recently made suggesting this would be the case
I'd be impressed (mildly) if you could furnish a post that said anything remotely like the outcome of a deal in which the Dutch approve a deal which is mostly grants to the countries most affected by Covid (except us of course).

Thank the lord above we are out now. It will be difficult enough coming out of the post covid downturn on our own without being roped into paying for chunks of Europe to do so as well because rest assured if we were still a member we would have.

No doubt Greece will get stuffed again. Poor buggers.

What have Cummings travel plans got to do with brexit? Have they somehow become merged into one issue in some people's minds?
I think "swerve" is the operative word. He decided the only way to fool people into voting Brexit was to swerve the awkward detail (it's in his blog) and he wanted to swerve round his own rules and now he wants to swerve round the consequences of his shittiness, with the aid of Liar Swervy Johnson. Yep, an easy merge.

I did ask whether we'd be a net beneficiary of the Covid recovery deal. I suspect there would be a lot of resistance as we were authors of our own worst deaths per capita, but then it's the same people who made sure we wouldn't be able to draw on EU support who gave us that world-beating statistic. (Merge …)

We best get on with it then.

That seems a lot of stuff to deal with. I thought we were only leaving a trading bloc. That's what we were told in 1975.

Just because something is hard doesn't mean we shouldn't do it. I'll take a difficult few years in order to be a fee and independent nation again.

But then again, I have faith in my fellow Britons to battle through.

If we avoided the difficult decisions then by 1941 the predecessors of the EU's chief architects would have been goose stepping down deansgate.

This is the greatest nation in the history of the world, for all her faults, we'll be fine. Have faith old chum.
Truly weird. I'll give that post the dignity it doesn't deserve and go out on a limb and say you weren't there in 1975... when in its leaflet to voters, the Out campaign warned that the Common Market "sets out by stages to merge Britain with France, Germany, Italy and other countries into a single nation," in which Britain would be a "mere province", and the In campaign openly acknowledged that being a member of the EEC involved "pooling" sovereignty with the eight other nations who were members at the time, but it said Britain could not go it alone in the modern world and it assured voters that British traditions and way of life were not under threat..

And the Sun said "We are all Europeans now".

But "greatest nation in the history of the world"? Ah, the glory that was little England.

When I look at how woeful the situation is in this country and see comments like this, i do wonder what it will take for some of the "go it alone" types to realise that this country isn't very special at all. I expect the Greeks would tell us to keep our pity and save it for ourselves. They're laughing at us right now.

Do you recall what the Lib Dem manifesto pledge on the EU was?
For the EU election, it was "Bollocks to Brexit".
For the General Election it was something like "For a Brighter Future". Anybody voting for them was voting for Corbyn - Hence why they lost seats.

Remarkable lack of knowledge on a subject you think you are qualified to post on.
