Weekend, but again just 18 new cases and 1 death for Scotland.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirms 15,418 people have now tested positive for Covid-19, an increase of 18 from yesterday.

1,046 patients are in hospital with a suspected or confirmed case (down 27), with 27 patients being treated in intensive care (no change from yesterday).

3,695 people have been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment for the virus since 5 March.

A further one person who tested positive has died, taking the total to 2,363 deaths in Scotland by that measure. She says this figure should be "treated with caution", given death registration tends to be lower on Sundays.

1000's queuing for opening of Ikea, fuck is wrong with people

why wouldn't you just wait a few days for ques to die down ?

people must love a day out queing up, bellends

Can't get my head around this. Thousands at every store in the country, queuing for hours to buy furniture, which you can buy probably buy online, during an international pandemic. Some absolutely incredible people on this earth...

heard a shopper on the radio ‘it was nice to feel back to normal and had some nice conversations with people in the que’

so sad.

I know this isn't covid news, but fucking hell...

That's really shitty.

They do have the vaccine now, it got approved around Christmas. Hopefully WHO and co will just flood the region with the vaccine and it won't get out of control again.

apparently i was making it up a few days ago

Brighton and Hove City Council has called for enhanced lockdown powers, after huge crowds descended on beaches in the area over the weekend.

Council Leader Nancy Platts said visitors had been "overdoing it" with alcohol on the seafront, adding that behaviour "has become unpleasant and dangerous".

Local people have complained of feeling "unsafe".

Platts said the impact of lockdown easing on popular tourist destinations, such as Brighton, had not been "thought through".

Not sure that I've seen any Medic anywhere, claim it is not a respiratory disease, that it affects other systems in it's severe form is pretty evident.
Yes but it's a vascular disease that first effects blood vessels in the lungs. That is how my daughter describes it anyway.

need to wait for more info but they have been fighting it for a while. there has been an ongoing outbreak since 2018.

https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/ebola/drc-2019

and

https://www.who.int/csr/don/archive/disease/ebola/en/

going by the last link they had no new cases 29th April through to 19th May so I guess its starting to pick up again.

Takes a while to load but they have a dashboard ( in french though ) for it like Covid's

Whichever figure you look at (deaths, total infections etc), every single EU and Western country has been disproportionally affected globally.

Thailand for example has a population of 70 million and an average age that makes it similar to here. Bangkok is one of the most populous cities in Asia, very similar to London yet Thailand as a whole has only seen 3000 cases with 57 deaths....

They imposed their full lockdown in April, 2 weeks after we did, yet the virus was first detected in Thailand in January, just like here.......

So why does the virus not spread like wildfire in Bangkok and Thailand but it does in London and elsewhere in the UK?
Face coverings for a start. High UV light conditions and temperatures for another. Hand sanitizer everywhere. Temperature checking.
Standard far east tactics.

Im starting to think the countries that disinfected the streets too have had a good level of control.

Been to hospital this morning with my lad for a routine appointment

They told us in their opinion the restrictions are being lifted far too soon and because of all the dickheads who can't follow simple instructions the hospitals are all preparing for an inevitable second wave
They could be waiting a while then.
Most people are covering their faces and keeping their distance. Oh and water evaporates from surfaces quickly at the moment

Waste of time doing streets - except push buttons on road crossings.
Disinfecting covered passageways, public transport and other indoor spaces on the other hand will be good.

110 England + Scotland + NI hospital deaths. 13 in England only on the day - Sunday. (To compare 19 reported from on the day - Sunday a week ago and 27 from the Sunday before and 45 the Sunday before that).

Weekend caveats (and Wales not out yet) but positive steady fall.

North West down a bit and not the worst region over past few days.

Has anyone seen any recent studies into covid and surface transmission? I remember early on reports suggesting it could hang around for days on packages delivered etc. That was weeks and weeks ago now though.
