Liverpool thread 2019/20

Sounds like a British Airways annual report dated December 2019, how are they doing now? If the finances are so great at Liverpool why were they the ones banging the table more than anyone else to get the season finished? They need the tv money, they need the prize money as there is big gaping hole in their finances just like everyone else. Safety of players and officials is not as important as protecting the money ball as it’s lost a few threads of it in in the last 3 months.
And a club with healthy finances would never furlough its staff if it had any class or conscience. But again they dive to the depths and show everyone their true colours

Yeah looks all good and there stuff there that I didn’t know. It’s the champions league money that makes the big difference also plus your world wide fan base and don’t forget the none stop positive media, City mainly get a day or two positive media when we win a trophy. You can see how the payer of the season winners goes to see the bias in the media regarding our players. Henderson been very good this season for you but come on player of the year?

I'd say he's been our clear player of the year for what's that's worth. Which is saying something when we've had a slew of them right across the team.

He's been outstanding in three different positions (we went through a large period after Fabinho had been totally bossing it early before his lengthy absence, where nobody even thought of him down to Jordan playing to such a high level dropping back into his role) and is the perfect leader, on and off the field, that you could wish for. But he's not a 'MOTD highlight-reel player' blaming one in from 20 yards and many people who don't watch him closely (why would they if he's not at your club?), don't realise just how vitally integral he is to our side and just what a quality footballer he is in what he does. And one of the hardest working players the entire league over who's self sacrificed himself for the past few years playing completely out of position, before now moving back to his more natural role. Trent wouldn't be able to do all he does without Jordan's relentless dropping in and covering of that side for example as Mo is never going to work back to any significant degree. (Not that you'd want him to.).

So I get why he's totally under-appreciated by the general football fan. And whether that's enough to have him as the POTY without the flashy goals and assists stats that many default to is open to subjective opinion. (I never put too much credence on these awards anyway personally these days. They're all popularity contests in the main. See the 'Messi/ Ronaldo axis for the Ballon d'Or.).

I just know how he underpins most everything we do and is the key driving force of setting the tempo of our play 9 times out of 10.

We're a lot weaker side when he's not leading the team. Which is the biggest compliment I can pay him.

I know us City fans sometimes moan about some of our tickets prices etc.
But I was taking to a southern liverpool fan doing some painting in our rented home. We got talking about ticket schemes and prices etc. I said I only have a matchday citizens card, 10% of ticket and the shop etc ,he said he has the same thing at liverpool. I said I go about 10 times a season. He said he goes about twice as it's hard to get tickets.
I said I pay £35 , he said same as me "I pay £35 a month ! " ...."what ! No I pay £35 a year " I said lol. The look on his face as he was paying nearly £350 a season compared to my £35 lol.
I than started taking piss about how liverpool treat their fans ;)

A couple of days ago I cynically said there was a subtle mission creep by li'pool fans who were coming on here and very carefully winding Blues up with the sole intention of getting Blues banned from this thread. They were also going on other threads doing the same. I said between 2 and 5 dippers, well it seems we now have 3.... be careful Blues. Do not respond - do not engage-do not let them win.

apparently it was the Yanks just being Yanks according to our knowledgeable Scouse friend, nothing to do with balancing the books with no football being played.

Bit like Barry was for us breaks up play easy passes keeps the team ticking but my main point was was/is he the best player this season? The media have a big say in picking it to with there reporting of it. Remember Giggs getting it when he had a poor season hardly played but won it because he was retiring.

For me player of the season should always be from the team that wins the league.

The members scheme? Which is bollocks to start with as it only puts them in a ballot for the mad scramble for tickets but it's a yearly £35 mate.

I have blocked two of them so I can't see their inane ramblings and fishing trips

I think that's the crux isn't it?

He's the captain of the team having, to this point in the season, the best statistical season in not only English top-flight history, but that there's ever been in Europes top 5 leagues.

Whether that equates to him been the best individual player of the entire league is subjective and another thing again.

But they invaraby go with a leading player from the best team in the league that season so he's getting the traction as he's the leader of it.

They don’t when City win the league.

I think that's a bit harsh on Barry - the only thing missing from his game was pace.

Contrary to Henderson who's biggest attribute is his 'athleticism'. He isn't as average as we like to make out but he is very replaceable in my opinion.

As has been mooted, he must offer a fair bit off the pitch..........

Just heard klopp saying on the radio 1 news at 9:90 that he is happy for liverpool to play on neutral grounds or even Mars. Odd he didnt mention the reason why liverpool have to play at neutral grounds that their fans cant be trusted !
Well klopp may be happy about neutral grounds but I am not happy City cant play at home because of their fans

Why wasnt klopp asked by the reporter why are you having to play on neutral grounds ?

How many city players have won player of the year?

Ok he said a year. It was about 4 seasons ago

No worries. It's a continued mess and a continued source of anger regardless. They are currently making changes but they aren't taking into account loyalty which defeats the whole object. All the membership basically does is affords you the chance to be in the mad scramble twice a year when they open up bulk packages of games on a general. (Or picking up any returns if you're on the ball match-by-match.) With a system so outdated it's liable to bounce you out after you've spent hours and hours queueing with them in your basket. It's unfair and outdated but it brings x # of £35 in every year so they are never going to do away with it.

My seasonie has held at £725 for the last 5 years or so now but our whole ticketing operation is a continued mess.

Don’t really get the Werner hype myself either. Obviously he’d be an upgrade on Origi, but he wouldn’t replace any of their front three in their starting XI. I’d be a lot more concerned if they got Kai Havertz. He looks like an outstanding prospect.

I think he's a good buy precisely because he's a massive upgrade on Origi, but he's also a better out and out striker than Firmino, so if they ever sign a creative midfielder to do the #10 work Firmino does, Werner could end up in the front 3.

Our fans Your fans. Utd fans. Sheff Utd fans. The Ev. Geordies.

They are now talking about moving some London games to the Olympic Stadium, but the initial request of the 5 games was a scandalous, and unwarranted, discrimination against Northern football fans. Again.

We can't trust people in L'pool/ Manchester/ Newcastle/ Sheffield to respect the rules. But F all the people on the beaches in Dorset etc cramming together like lemmings.

It stinks. But comes as no surprise sadly the contempt they continue to hold us all in.

I wouldnt compare our fans to yours we arent all Angel's but compared to yours. Our game is being moved for one reason only your fans cant be trusted

Time for me to leave that there.

I understand why you lot would have to play at a neutral venue because you're about to win the league and your fans have repeatedly shown through the last 40 years that they can't behave themselves. Why City, United, Newcastle and Sheffield United fans are roped into it is beyond me. It's almost as though they can't admit that it's only Liverpool games that have to be moved so throw in a few more to prevent the inevitable accusations of discrimination again.
