Anyone who has watched their games and not paid close attention to the way they have been refereed this season will not have the full picture of how much influence the officials have had on the outcome of the title this season.

In the same way certain referee's always seem to be in the way of our outlet ball, or the disparity in applying the LOTG, or foul/play on when one team or another has a clear advantage; Liverpool have had that in their favour all season, and that's before you factor in VAR. Very good teams can be made to look bang average by a referee well versed in the dark art's, and this has been going on for years.

I’m in the garden tonight celebrating the lad’s girlfriend’s birthday with a barbecue. I’m going to put City on a small telly with the Firestick. I’m not in work tomorrow so won’t have to face the out of town glory hunters. Any huge celebration from dippers will break the current guidelines. We won’t need to see Henderson, Robertson, Gok Wan or Klipperty gurning at the moment it happens. Having to give them a guard of honour next week will give our players a real reason to smash them.

Worthy winners but it does help when your key players are available all season. We have had wretched luck with injuries this season again. Two games into the re-start and we already have our all-time top scorer under the knife.

Business as usual last night , Palace lost their best player after 15 minutes and then 5 foot 6 midget Jordan Ayew clashed with 6 foot 5 , man mountain Van Dyke just outside the box , man mountain went down like the proverbial sack of spuds holding his shin , with fears he might never walk again...luckily Virgil made a full recovery in time to watch Liverpools rush goalie put a "Beckhamesque" (tm) free kick past the Palace keeper..at that point i turned over...

I don’t remember them if there were but that could of course be recollection bias at work

I do remember constant discussions of whether our being so far ahead in points was “destroying the league and ruining football” and “whether our dominance needed to be clamped down on in the future... For the good of the game”

can anyone with a Better memory than me confirm?

Surely the third time it happens, Rodri or the captain politely points out that the referee is in the way. If it carries on, make it known to the cameras like shirt pulling is made known.

I do. Surely you can remember the media stating we could beat United and win the league.

Even last season, when Liverpool were drawing at Newcastle, the commentators were saying we could win it at home to Leicester.

I think you already know the answer mate. It’s the same scenario, reported on in entirely different ways. The talk when we were miles ahead was “how do teams close the gap next season?” The narrative was one of worrying about a period of City dominance and suggesting that was bad for English football. The focus was on money, not the hard work involved.

Fast forward to today and there’s a half-hourly update on when Liverpool can be crowned champions, they advertise their matches as if it’s a production by Liverpool’s own content team. They make no mention of the cost of Van Dijk, Alisson, Fabinho, Keita etc. Their football is to be admired, even though City’s is better. They are back where they belong and there’s a hopefulness amongst the media that it will be the sustained period of dominance that they were opposed to when City were 19 points clear.

It’s all bullshit mate. The whole sport is a farce. On the pitch, off the pitch, the media, it’s all shite.

though, again, I would be happy to be corrected if the same level of desperation and fawning occurred for us and I am just misremembering

Liverpool are very strong, among the top 5-6 teams in the PL era without a doubt.

But they had a lot of luck in the league this season.

Almost everything went their way: from injuries to opposition players to VAR/referee decisions. For instance, they played most of the good sides without some of the latter's best players: City with a makeshift defence (no Ederson, Laporte, Mendy...), Manure without Pogba and Rashford (at Anfield), Spurs without Kane, etc.

Very strong but also very lucky. Good that they won't win any domestic cup and the CL though. The comparisions with the greatest teams in history became pointless after they lost 4 games in 3 weeks and bombed out of the CL and the FA Cup.

Note the differences with City 17/18. Even if Liverpool win with 4 goals every game till the end they won't break our GD record of + 79. And even if they score 5 goals on average in every remaining game, they still won't break our GF record of 106 goals. Different levels of dominating teams.

I don’t go on the sky sports website or app and try to stay away from the bbc (although my boss and his incessant babbling drives me to glimpse at bbc almost hourly) so can’t recall any articles.

We know that the narrative is different. Pointless allowing yourself to be bothered by something that can’t be proved one way or another.

Carragher sat in the stand being paid by sky to join in with the Kop’s chants or Martin Tyler
implying that Ederson faked his 18 stitches is easier to point out but they don’t give a fuck because for every blue that fucks sky off, there’s 10 plastic rags or dippers who will lap it up.
