Kalidou Koulibaly

Width and Pace are the antidote to stacked defense. We can pass around all day and still lose. As has happened in 7 of the 9 loses this season.

Width and pace come from quick passing at the back out to the wide players.

Unforced errors inain the midfield is another area he is right about. Perhaps the confidence brought by having Koulibaly might make midfielders lose the ball less in compromising positions. But this too isn't immediately self evident.

Compressing the midfield more means fewer errors, more friendly bodies within 5 yard passes.

Is he going to stop us being outnumbered on breakaways? Probably not.

Yes. I very clearly explained how. wrote a whole section about it.

I'm getting the feeling you didn't actually read my comment at all Dax.

Kompany had huge impact over 10 years, if you honestly believe Koulibaly can come in and provide the same level of leadership on and off the pitch immediately, you're disrespecting what Kompany brought to the club and his understanding of everything City and everything Manchester. No player in the world could have that impact, it's absolutely impossible.
I thought it was very clear in context that I meant on the field leadership, so relax. But yes, Koulibaly can provide that. He does it for Napoli. Maybe not to the same degree as Vinny at his best but it’s obvious how that translates into improvements above and beyond his individual contributions.

Having good Centre Backs is the key to making the pitch smaller, which helps mitigate our other issues and most importantly gives us a much better chance at pressing.

Also if the pitch is small and the press fails, everyone is so close together you can get numbers back to support the defence with greater ease.

Right and the only real way to undo a team that pushes so high and presses so well is the ball over the top - but we mitigate that by having fast defenders - Walker, Laporte, Koulibaly - and a quick keeper who will sweep up.

It's quite perplexing how whenever this occurs, people automatically blame the CBs without looking at the problem wider.

Some of our supporters don't seem to be learning from history even though it's repeating itself.
Glad it's not just me seeing this, I was beginning to think I was going mad (probably still am).

For fuck sake Doma, of course I read your explanation. It just simply does not apply in the types of scenarios bring discussef

Your explanation of a higher line or more compressed defense or the speed of the player would not have changed the outcome vs Chelsea. And often those kinds of inopportuned errors is what does us in.

If KK is up field for a corner and Mendy/ Gundogan turn to dimwits in the blink of an eye, 10 Koulibaly's don't solve that.

Fewer brainless errors by individuals will be the solution there. Like I said, your claims and his are not mutually exclusive.

Will we be better with KK? Absolutely!

Will that solve all our problems? No!

Usually, but there will still be times we get caught out but having Koulibaly and Laporte and a left back quicker than Zinchenko will ensure it happens much less than this season, to be fair Laporte and a left back and any new centre back quicker than Otamendi or Fernandinho will be better than this season.

it’s like CTID assumes all those Pro-KK think he should be out only signing

Buying one CB doesn’t fix everything but buying at least one top CB, a better LB, and likely needed a FW and a new CM will fix a lot of big gaps and holes. KK takes us a long way on that but the others get us over the mountain

It’s amazing the amount of time and effort a few posters are putting in to talking down one of the best CB’s in the world.

But I wonder what the end game is? Do they hope Txiki is reading the thread and pulls out of the talks (if any are actually taking place)?

He’s just another Mangala can’t wait for the meltdown in here when he’s getting some for pace every single week

There's been some awful opinions I've seen in my short time in this thread but f**k me this is up there. Convinced you've never watched Napoli and prefer rugby union.
