Sterling was very poor at times wrt his finishing. This season he is about to score 30 goals from open play. Vardy was a nothing striker when he was 25 y.o. Now he is about to win the Golden Boot.

Jesus will score plenty of goals. He has it in him to score 40 goals a season in his prime while helping his team-mates both offensively and defensively. Virtually all of his critics in this thread underestimate the importance of defending from the front.

Another thing that his critics don't seem to understand is how difficult it is to hit form and grow as a player when you are not a firm starter. Generally, Jesus is getting better when he plays several games in a row. He hasn't had the chance yet to play as a first choice striker for more than 2 months.

Sterling may end up with great stats this season, but he had a huge barren run during the key part of the season which has really cost us. Much in the same way as Jesus mostly scoring league goals in December/January, it's when you score them as well. The difference between Raz and Jesus is Raz doesn't hit the target enough, but when he does he has a good conversion rate. Jesus is very good for hitting the target he just doesn't score them. Both have technique issues with their finishing which means they can't keep that high level consistently, but allows them to reach that level for periods. Both have had lacklustre seasons in front of goal though.

Both are/were young and still developing as players. Something which your comments seems to underappreciate.

What would have happened if Sterling was consistent this season? He would have scored 45 goals from open play! Has even C. Ronaldo ever scored 45 goals from open play? Nope.

What would have happened if Jesus was consistent throughout the season? He would have scored more goals in one season than Aguero has ever managed! I think he will do it over the next 2 seasons anyway.

They're not that difficult if nearly 50% hit the target, certainly not more than any other striker gets. You also can't say one of his key plusses is his movement and the space he creates which creates more, better chances and then claim he doesn't score them because he only gets crap chances (which is what a few people on here are alluding to). He's the only striker in the top 20 goalscorers in the league to average a shot on target every half, in fact the ratio between him and other strikers is nearly 3 or 4 to 1 in some cases, so he gets plenty of chances and he hits the target. If he didn't so that I'd agree with you, we're potentially going to score more league goals than last season so our chance creation is no worse, if not a bit better than last season given our profligacy.

No, that's not true. If Jesus had been on 17/18 form he'd be at 18 goals, which may not seem much but as Raz proved in 17/18, 5 or 6 games extra individual goals in a season changes the dynamic entirely. What it shows though is with a bit of consistency and incremental improvement he could easily be a 20+ goal a season striker because everything else is there. It's frustrating he's gone backwards in that regard, but hey, I doubt we'll buy a new striker till Kun goes so he has another season, so hopefully the regular game time now added to a short turnaround between seasons will give him some momentum. Maybe the CL where he seems more at home will inspire some goalscoring form, we're looking at the straw jar for reasons for why he can't unlock his full potential yet.

You don't take into account that Jesus doesn't enjoy the benefit of being a 1st choice striker and you judge him by numbers produced while he is still developing and struggling to compete with one of the greatest PL strikers for a starting position. He hasn't had yet a season with 20 league starts. This start-stop thing interferes with his form and confidence.

Still, are the results of the team with Jesus worse than those when Aguero starts? The overall effect of Jesus' presence doesn't seem to be negative. And it is clearly positive when we talk about games away from home.

Thought he had a good game yesterday, thought he mixed it up, and caused problems. Its funny how it's the "dribblers" of the team who attract the most criticism, Gabby, Mahrez, and Raheem. Any player who takes on another player stands a high chance of losing that dual, but if they do get thru, the danger they cause is great, it disrupts set defences, and significantly increases the chance of a goal. Its why Pep always encourages the "dribblers" and forgives them their errors.

Aguero has fewer goals than Ings. Kane has fewer goals than Ings, Salah, Mané too. Danny Ings is having an exceptional season and has a chance at winning the golden boot.

Ings has been the third best player in the league this season for me.

Yeah his offsides are one part him going a bit early, but on the other part it's a player playing on the absolute edge and being very quick to react.

There's work to be done, but him being offside is hardly a crime in the way many on here portray it to be.

Could you imagine if I pointed out every time KDB mishit a cross? It'd be just as pointless.

Difference is goals and chances getting chalked off,he has No excuse anymore,he needs to sort it
