I thought when Kun got injured that this was Gabby's time. That he would show that he is good enough or prove that he isn't. In my own mind he has proven irrevocably that he is a top talent with a range of attributes that are quite rare in any top footballer and almost unique in one so young. In defence, his press, energy and work rate are simply phenomenal. When we have the ball, his movement to make space for others, close control, his awareness of others are all excellent. He isn't as natural a striker as Kun but there are goals he has scored that Kun wouldn't have so in my view he is doing fine on that front as well. His overall attitude is a joy to behold. We are very fortunate to have him and hope that he develops into another legend for the club.

"One aspect that has lingers over this City team is the eventual succession plan for a post-Agüero world. Never too far from an injury, Agüero has continued to be excellent when on the pitch, and will feature deservedly in many Premier League “Team of the Decade” lists. As we can see from the chart above, he leads the league this season in expected metrics and has seven non-penalty goals and two assists to show for his work. Close on his tail though is Gabriel Jesus who actually leads the Premier League for non-penalty expected goals with 0.78, Agüero is in second on 0.69 per 90 then Tammy Abraham on 0.56. This is impressive stuff from the still-just-22-years-old Brazilian and he’s turned that into six goals himself with two assists too in similar minutes to that of his older colleague. The difference between the two appears to be that you get more creative passing from Agüero but more workrate from Jesus, and it’s arguable which of these two is more useful to City on any given day; but where’s the added esteem for Jesus?

"It could be down to the fact that Jesus is two and a half goals behind expectation this season and that itself is nothing new. Last season he had a lot more substitute minutes and found himself three goals behind expectation, while the year before he was about break even. Is he a sub par finisher? It’s a consideration to make, for sure. It might seem odd to conceive a 39 cap Brazilian international Copa America winner as a potential breakout player, but Jesus is probably one finishing bender away from being considered effectively world class. At his age playing for one of the best teams in the world, he should get all the help he needs to step up to the true elite, but perhaps it’s a shame Mikel Arteta has gone to Arsenal, given the reporting around his help to Raheem Sterling over the years. Jesus has all the makings and has every opportunity, he’s just got to find a way to score more goals."

This is a really good point actually. Given everything else he does on the pitch if his finishing improves even to the point where he just matches his xG pretty much no one would be questioning whether he was good enough to step in for Aguero. Which is kind of ironic given the amount of goals the big man himself has missed this year from poor finishing.

No he doesn't. He is a better goal threat. But the hustle, build up, aggressive running and movement, GJ is significantly better.

Ive actually said in prior posts GJ is better at this than Kun (more mobile) - but kun does do it....and noteable improved his all around game under Pep to incoperate what Pep wants and therefore become an even better player.

Kun is a vastly superior goal scorer however and therefore a significantly bigger goal threat to other teams.

7 goals from open play for Sergio in the league, most of them at the Etihad, vs 6 from open play for Jesus. This season Sergio hasn't been a vastly superior finisher. We are scoring goals at the same rate with and without Aguero. Both can improve with regard to their finishing. Sergio plays better at home and Gabby plays better away from home.

Kun is proven over 8 seasons - GJ is yet to prove himself long term - he has ben hit and miss again in Sergio's recent absence

You are comparing a 22 y.o. with a player who has already been in his prime. It's like comparing a 22 y.o. Sterling with a mature Sterling.

Besides, I was talking about this season, not their careers to date.

No Jesus - No Party...

What a player, what a superstar..
Misses the match and team looses..
