Arsenal FA Cup SF Post-Match Thread

Pointless going on about wholesale changes as that is not going to happen. Stating the obvious but the few changes that City make will need to be the right ones and the club needs to make sure it does not lose out on the players that it wants.

The players will have to have the appropriate technique and intelligence to play Pep's way but bigger, stronger quicker and more energetic will also be important.

I thought compared to his higher profile team mates he showed a lot more then any of them. He wasn't eye catching great by any stretch, but I was interested to see how he'd perform, I was happy to see the occasion wasn't to big for him. He wasn't at fault for either of the goals, the fault for those lie elsewhere. He should be a solid 3rd/4th option next season while he develops.
I like him as a player and he was let down by Mendy switching off for the 2nd but I can't say he had a good game. Only player who for me had the better of his opponent was Mahrez and we ended up taking him off. AFter that it was just high balls into the box and no one of getting to the byline and pulling it back which is our usual game.

mendy is absolute dross runs like he’s got a hunchback can’t run, defend, slow and hits and hopes his shit crosses... gundogan has been shit for 2 years ( and before i get we won leagues and trophies) united won them with chadwick, may, jones!! so let’s not go there!! city need left back another ch, midfielder and a striker
I read this as a continuation of @kaz7 quote of peps post match comments..

The concentration levels of the players this season has been shocking. We have lost 13 games this season and it’s mostly to sides who are happy to sit back, allow us the ball and hit us with quick forward play on the break knowing that our defence is shit. Exactly what we used to do to sides.

We are becoming the ultimate flat track bullies. Hammering sides at the bottom or with limited attacking options but struggling against anyone organised and with pace in their forward line.

Which players have been better than a 7/10 this season? Previously they were ALL 8 or 9.

Where has the press gone? It was none existent at times tonight,

Silva going, Fernandinho legs look gone, Aguero injury prone and in his 30’s. Who is going to take the bull by the horns and start leading this next bunch. Who is the next captain?

Very disappointing end to the domestic campaign given who we were playing.

I agree, we did it to ourselves. Arsenal did what they had to do and we let them through our own poor performance. It's done now lets move on to the CL.

Exactly. Hopefully if Mikel takes Arsenal to where they should be then we may have our next manager. Meantime we roll on to the next game

Well, that was crap. The better team on the day won. On the bright side we won’t suffer the ignominy of being beaten by the rags in the final.

That had nothing to do with Arsenal despite what the commentary tried to have us believe, they were there for the taking if we wanted it, they didn’t play phenomenally well, they just did their basics competently which is what Southampton and all the others that have beaten us this season have done to.

This wasn’t a game where players played poorly and made mistakes, it was a game that highlighted the glaring deficiencies in our system. no real surprise Arteta is aware of them as to be expected but the worrying thing is the likes of Southampton are doing it too. You take away the space for our one attack pattern on the inside of the fullback and were absolutely clueless.

I’ve never seen a team camp on the edge of the oppositions box and do fucking nothing with the ball for 10 minute periods before launching a pointless cross to the one person in the box.

When the opponents do that you have to draw them out or you have to go wide, they wasn’t coming out no matter what so we went wide but nobody was getting in the box, Jesus was in the box alone surrounded by defenders, david silva would join from time to time but that’s it. Sterling and mahrez/Foden we’re keeping out wide when they wasn’t delivering balls instead of getting in around the back post meaning they may as well had gone and sat down on the halfway line for all the threat they caused, Kdb went to the right to deliver, walker dropped into midfield which should have allowed Rodri to push in to the box too as time ran out but that didn’t happen either.

We don’t score late goals in tight games or come from behind late on anymore because we don’t apply any real pressure on their goal, Liverpool got so many late goals this season because they apply real pressure, they put quality in and get numbers in the box, we just go side to side in front of an organised unit and fizzle out. I can’t even name a solitary chance we had after going 2-0 down despite having 92% of the ball. Our attack is a bigger concern than our defence

The first half was a disgrace the lack of effort was unforgivable. Second half the effort was there again at least but it was an increasingly familiar story. Our attack right now doesn’t have enough variety or pace to win titles, we’ve lost Sane and we’ve turned sterling into something closer to the type of player we already have in abundance, far too many players wanting to do the same thing.
I’ve No real complaints with the defence today, The first was a good goal and the second was a consequence of the way we play with the high line, Garcia isn’t quick enough to play for us in this system, you either change the system or you need pace at CB.

I don’t think I’ve been this angry at City and their performance (no ref/opposition/bar influence) for a long long time, probably since Wigan in the cup final. There’s a big job to do this summer, smashing 6 past relegation fodder isn’t going to mask it

Thank fuck for covid, I’d be distraught if I had travelled down to Wembley for that.

Wank, pissed me off during some parts, but there is something about the empty stadium and the post covid season that makes me not that arsed really. Am i weird or do yas know what i mean and feel the same?

I feel weirdly excited. There's no getting away from the fact that we need a revamp, and we also have the cash to do it. I think we're gonna spend heavy in the summer and be a monster next year. Just a gut feeling. This is the flames, and a pheonix is gonna be formed in it.

Thank God Pep did not say we played so well and he is so proud of the players like he does sometimes after horrible games.

One of those games that seem to come around with increasing regularity. All the possession. all the ambition, all the creativity, all the entertainment, but not a goal! We have to score first in these games and then make the other side chase. If it doesn't happen that way then we are battering against brick walls.

Mendy was the least of our problems tonight.

but he’s shit can’t defend can’t run offers nothing going forward apart from hit and hope crosses and injured most of the time!! i bet he’s got a niggle now and won’t play in either of our last two league games.....

Considering we won the court case on Monday and given the elation and positive vibes coming out of the club all week that was like the day after new years eve.
The players looked dispirited, disinterested and played it like a training match.

We have rested players for weeks in readiness for this game and that's the best they could do.
Abysmal.

crazy to think you watch this city smash teams even this arsenal team ? they play like that ?? am i missing something here from the moment the team sheet was put out, you got the feeling city was light in the middle of the park because arsenal was playing 3.5.1.1 ? gundogan must have shit his pants at the amount of work he needed to do facing 5 in midfield on his own

sometimes pep needs to see the woods from the hills ? teams are letting you have the ball out wide because the lack of height in the box. mendy tonight was shocking but you have to feel for him at times ? what does he have to aim at ??
