Ferran Torres

That’s why I caveated my original post by saying Zinchenko going would probably depend on a player coming available where we want or need a larger profit for the books to offset that transfer. Zinchenko would basically show as a £25m profit but Stones going for the same price wouldn’t because he’d still have a higher book value given we bought him for £50m, so he’ll have say £10m left to amortise.

I don’t mind Zinchenko, he tries hard and he’s a good technical player but unless he does move forward, which there’s no sign of him doing, then he is one of our left backs... and I would prefer a proper left back because he’s not good enough there, and with Mendy being susceptible to injury it needs addressing.

Anyway, to bring it back to Torres it looks like we’re trying to do something similar with Herrera to offset his cost because the €15m should show as pretty much all profit.
Stones was signed for £50mill in 2016 on a 6 year deal, so selling him for £25mill now would be a book profit would it not? Unless I've got it totally wrong and it's not as simple as that.

Probably Zinchenko is unlikely to be a starter in a title or European Cup potential winning team in his favoured position. He might just be enjoying his football and the group at City, and see this as his best realistic chance of winning trophies. The Ukrainian Delph (and I say that with respect, it's a brilliant thing to be)

It's probably an easy decision for him.

The last couple of seasons he'll have played the equivalent of 20-25 full games for us. He also started our last three Wembley finals. He could be a more regular starter at a mid table club in the PL, and would maybe play 30-35, but would likely get less money, have lots less of the ball, hardly any cup games, and no chance of winning anything.

If he went weeks, or months without playing, then it might be an issue, but at the moment he probably feels very much part of one of the best squads in the world.

If not available
Cantwell from Norwich as plan B?

Is this her?

i think torres could be a decent player for us - is he the same level as Sane - probably not but he may have a bit more to his game that Sane as well and is more of a Mahrez type of player but with more pace and by the looks of it is equally comfortable going outside the fullback as well as inside (unlike mahrez)

Another Mahrez/Bernardo type of player, technically proficient but lacking killer acceleration to go pass players. No matter how good his attitude, it'll not be easy for him to establish himself in this team. We had Sané, I'm not convinced this guy would be half as useful.

He’s not the same as Sané but he does have that initial burst to go past players. One thing he has in his locker is his delivery of a pass/cross. I have to give him that. Does that well. It’s tough and will be tough to find someone similar to Sané. Even if the club want to buy a pace merchant, he has to have a football brain at least.

As seen last night, that initial burst of speed is what we need. Sane would have been no good last night, there was no space in behind Arsenal for him to run into. We needed someone who could get around a defender over 5 yards and then deliver quality in tight spaces. Sane was great at lightning quick counter attacks, but against parked busses, he was very frustrating. How many times did he run the ball out of play? As he had no space to use his pace and get in behind.

Now I can't recall ever seeing Torres play. If he has that Tevez burst of acceleration, which can get him away from a player even though there is no room to operate, and has Mahrez like technical quality, then he would fit in well with this squad.
