Arsenal FA Cup SF Post-Match Thread

There were 10 men in their box at times. Compact and well disciplined. Not particularly interested in engaging us out wide but with enough on the near side to block the low cross. We had little option but to put high lobs and crosses in. The only way to get back in the game was to let them have more ball and create more space. We never attempted it.

to change to that method mid game would be very difficult i guess for both teams.
its not the way we generally play. we are very successful in our primary method, but as alluded to earlier in the elite games pep has done it.
do we class arsenal as an elite game, that's the quandary

I wish Pep would not wear those ripped jeans on matchday really bugs me , sets the wrong tone, im sure it had something to do with the defeat,.

Time to bring back the positive thread. I’ll start. We’ll come good again no worries there at all. Come on city go out and beat Real
The Southampton performance was excellent apart from our inability to put the ball in the net. The players put in a real shift even though we lost. The Bournemouth game and yesterday showed the reason why we have dropped so many points this season. Even if Liverpool didn't have a freak season I doubt we would of got near them. The iffy Bournemouth performance should of given coaching staff the excuse to bollock the whole squad and stress the importance of the coming semi final. It didn't or it fell on death ears. Perform like that against Madrid and it's bye bye to CL as well.
I know that's not positive but that's the way I see it,no one can be happy about a no show in an FA cup semi final.

He would. We have potentially a big few months coming up but a display like yesterday in Europe and our season is over.

I know fella the chances of winning the CL are slim imho but after that we aren’t party to the internal discussions inside the club. I believe the hierarchy already know what Peps future is they are all too close to each other not to I believe.

that was in responce to your **** in your post -I apolgise

I did sy that but Im unsure tbh - i think he could do a job for us but not as a main centre forward - if he is to be that then I would sell him - but if he was to play as part of a front 3 with another main striker I wouldnt

Ive just posted this on his thread about our best possible front 3 (baring injuries)

Jesus ------------Kun ---------Sterling

Silva------------------------KDB

Rodri

Back 4

Eddie

I dont expect him to do what you are suggesting but I expect him to pose a threat - I expect him when he recieves the ball from a bad back pass to at least turn towards goal and get a shot away - not lay it off -there is always one too many passes with him

I actually believe he is better on the left of a front 3 than the central stiker (Maybe the better way of putting it is part of a fluid front 3 but with someone else who is a better finisher/more f a goal scorer)- teams just dont fear GJ . They dont see him as a goal threat and its not suprising cause he isnt really. He is a very good foil for other people but at the moment he is nowhere near a lead the line type of striker.

Pep has clearly told him to retain possession - thats what Pep is about andits why he use to go mad at Sane.....BUT thats not the issue with Jesus. HIs ball retention is generally very good (though his control at times is poor) and his link up play excellent - but again he isnt a real goal threat.

I guess we will see but if he ends up main striker after Kun goes then I suspect we will hugely struggle unless we bring in another goal threat.

For what it is worth I like him on the left and cutting in but only if Pep releases the shackles on these skilful players, it is almost like he coaches individual skill out of them for ball retention purposes, this then leads to your example of pass before shoot, as I have no doubt that Pep is always going on at them on the practice field, is somebody else better placed to score than you? By the time they look the snapshot is gone and half the time the pass as well.

I think in the 1st half, we had 0 shots on Target
2nd half, 1 shot on target by Mahrez

If you think buying another CB will solve our problem, I am afraid it will not.

I would rather spend 60-100m that we seems to be willing to spend on defenders, on a match winning players who will unlock defence and break the parking bus teams.

I totally agree with this. He is the face of a massive club and football organisation. You can dress casually and be smart. At present his attire does not give a good impression.

They'll know now, they were just awaiting the verdict on the ban. Pep himself has alluded that after a time at a club players stop listening and believing and when they do he knows it's time to move on. He is an intense and passionate character I guess it depends on if he has the hunger to rebuild and go again here. It wouldn't even surprise me if he walked at the end of the season, he is a maverick so nothing can be ruled out.

Hahaha this has to be a wind up. Shocking jeans but

Dressing in a club blazer and grey slacks like Ron Manager wouldn’t even begin address the issues behind that performance

We’re arguably still the best team around on our day. We do lack consistency and concentration this season, though, to the extent that hitting top form in (potentially) 3 CL games is a big ask. If we don’t, we’ll get ripped apart and end up with a single Micky Mouse trophy for the season’s efforts. Not a disaster but not impressive either, given our resources.

My worry is that we’ll fart-arse about in the last two league matches but be arrogant enough to think we’ll come good for the CL. Unlike most, I think we should go for it against Watford and Norwich and put last night’s half-hearted effort behind us. That means not changing half the team and not starting a bunch of players who are unlikely to make the final cut. I’d possibly make KDB an exception as a short break might benefit him.

IMO, the team which starts the last two games would ideally be the team who Pep expects to start against Real. I doubt it will happen though.

i thought he had been doing a bit of decorating.

Oh no. Bringing back Tony Pulis. He wears the club shop, he wears the club shop.......
Fuck that, I'll settle for the ripped Jeans!

Massive rips in his jeans. Pep's missus should get a massive needle and repair them.
