Ferran Torres

Some myopic outlooks from some of you, worried what your noisy neighbors are doing. Pep indeed saw something in Sancho but player wasn't satisfied and it led to acromonious split - it happens

Ferran is not a reference comparison with Sancho although there are similarities. Both dribblers play predominantly on that right wing but the Spaniard is likely to see a lot of time on the left too since Pep likes inverted wingers

Ultimately Torres is about giving tactical flexibility to cover the loss of Leroy

I can't think of elite managers who would go back for a player that had rejected them before, especially for such a huge fee. Look at Pogba, no way would Ferguson have brought him back and let's face it he has been anything but a success. I feel the same way about Sancho great player when things are going well and I expect him to start very well if he goes to the rags.

Let's see in 6 months if he has still got the enthusiasm, I am not sure he will have, especially if they are struggling in anyway. As for Ferran Torres he sounds a typical City signing that will be moulded into the team shape and I for one are happy if I had a choice between the two, Ferran would be my option.

Typical as in he realises we are securing a talented player for a 1/5th of what they are throwing at Sancho.

The very same Sancho who went AWOL on this very club instead of joining pep and the rest of the team in North America.

He basically forced a sale to Dortmund. A few years later is now looking to move again. Has had disciplinary issues whilst in Germany and we are also receiving 15% of a fee.

You think he's a ferrari. Well using your analogy he's a temperamental ferrari then while we appear to be buying a more efficient and reliable Ford.

No, I didn’t say anything about Ferrari’s, or make any analogies. I was just observing that I personally don’t know many united supporters who would be that praiseworthy of one of our new signings and a bit downbeat about one of theirs!

We want back for Laporte tbf but I agree with the rest of your post

This is from the Faily Star:

"City have agreed a £37m fee with Valencia for Ferran Torres and are expected to pay an initial £20.9million after agreeing a five-year contract."

So City have agreed a £20.9m fee with add-ons that could potentially get it as high as £37m in the future? I suppose its all about context and how you word things huh? LETS SEE IF THEY DO THE SAME FOR THE RAGS.

Pep and Txiki clearly base a significant chunk of their player selection and recruitment strategy on personality - the right character fit for the team they want to build. We've seen it time and again, so we shouldn't be surprised when it happens.

They have the benefit of direct, first hand experience of Sancho's personality - and have been unequivocal from the start that we have no interest in the player. He chose to leave (in an entirely unprofessional way), so why would he choose to come back?

Good player - and a good signing for the Rags - but it's very clear our decision wasn't based on his talent, and is all about Sancho the person.

For what it's worth, I think they'll both be very successful respectively - but we'll have the character we want for our team, not a very talented but questionable character instead.

I was very unhappy about Sancho leaving, because I think it would have been avoided if we had built ourselves a reputation over time, for giving kids a chance & it highlighted an obvious weakness in our system which is now, predictably, being regularly exploited.

He clearly had & has, a lot of ability.

Having said that, I was not certain then & am not certain now, that he would be the right player for our team, at all. I just wanted him & everyone like him, to 'think' he could make it here & that he had a path to the team.

From what I've seen of him at Dortmund, I'm still not convinced he would make a difference to City. We already do, what he does, better than he does it.

Torres looks entirely different & looks to me as if he has loads more room for improvement. He also appears to have far more about him, when not in possession, than Sancho (or Leroy). Whether he will score the same number of goals, I don't know, but there doesn't appear to be any reason why not.

I'm really happy about this signing & wouldn't swap.

The ferrari/Ford was aimed at the original poster.

Quite a lot of united fans I know have praised several of our signings tbh. My father in law who is a massive red has said to me he wishes united would of signed David all those years ago.

Real supporters appreciate talent such as Aguero/Silva/Vinny to name a few

Whatever the circumstances, the fact is he decided not to join us first time round

Circumstances are relevant. If player dismissed City out of hand, unlikely Pep & City would've come back in but due to the very special circumstances - player did his parent club a favor with the understanding City would come back for him the following year.

Some view it originally as a rejection but it was far from it, it was a gesture to Bilbao

What the fuck would they have done with him ?

It would be like giving a 100 year old bloke a laptop.

I don’t think City saw it like that at the time. In fact Txiki and Pep were said to be raging at his last minute change of heart

Txiki & Pep were likely bummed due to the nasty injury he suffered while with Les Bleus, only to sign an extension (he had already signed an extension the year before) with Athletic and bumping his transfer buyout further up...before eventually signing less with CIty less than 18 months later

If the injury hadn't happened, IMHO, he would've been signed by Txiki in 2016

That we can agree on
