By Hoppers do you mean those monster grasshopper flys like the Chernobyl ant? We have hoppers but my guess is that they will look very different.
Yes, similar but not the biggest by any means. I think we were a little early, didn't see or hear any grasshoppers. Ended up tying a little bead head nymph to the hopper...still quiet, so tried a bit of everything. Didn't really see anything rising until the last hour, finally got i to a few with a caddis dry fly.
Beautiful day though, saw a mother moose and calf, lots of eagles and ospreys

that is so beautiful. We don't get many eagles although that is starting to change as White tail sea eagles are on the increase and starting to move inland. We have plenty of Ospreys though. Nothing nicer than seeing them catch a fish in front of your boat.
Unfortunately no moose. We do have beavers though - they have been re-introduced into Perthshire.

This is our Hopper. I use these a great deal.

Had a great day out on the water at Llyn Clywedog on Friday. Fishing using dry flies, caught a cracking wild brown and a decent rainbow.
Lost 3 and snapped 3 times, turns out you need a 6 lb. minimum tippet there and not a 4 lb. we were using according to the locals plus the staff.
Never used anything heavier than a 4 lb. tippet before when using dries.
Anybody giving it a try, recommend these flies, Hawthorne, Cow Dun, Daddy LL and Midas, new fly to me.
Use size 12 or 14, possibly 16 if you can see the damn thing to tie the tippet to it.
Most successful anglers were those who have the expertise and patience to cast a team of 3 flies, beyond me, just gets in one huge tangle.
Highly recommend Clywedog, beautiful place, new boats, bank fishing good too, helpful staff.

All depends what the hatch is and if they're eating it, sounds like a good day

Apologies if already posted, but as a member of Lymm Anglers, they're just posted a link to this article on their Facemither page. I know a couple of the residents of this thread will be intimately acquainted with the problems of what's happening on the Wye, but though others might be interested too:

Tragic what's happening before our very eyes. When I was there in June, there wasn't a single field that I fished in that didn't have an abstraction unit. Seems it's only anglers that care and no-one cares about anglers.

That's true. And if it wasn't for anglers being the eyes and ears for the EA, British waterways would just be open cesspits and dumping grounds devoid of any animal life.

Nice update mate.

Whilst tippet diameter can sometimes make a difference when fishing dries (if for example the fish are particularly spooky) I would normally go with 10lb florocarbon to ensure you dont get snapped when the fish takes.

The midas fly was a big secret for a while amongst match fishermen and is used extensively on the large english reservoirs. Its pretty easy to tie. Seal fur body, nylon rib, hen pheasant legs tied in backwards, soft red game or greenwells hackle and a little touch of gold glo-brite round the head.

Scruff it up with velcro before use and jobs a goodun.
It can be deadly on its day but I have found an ordinary hopper catches just as many!

Nice one catching a wild brown btw.

What brand of fluorocarbon do you use? I'm switching to Rio fluoroflex in readiness for another bash on Thursday. Going to give the Midas a try too. I found Black Hawthorne good on the day, the guy with me was getting lots of interest using Cow Dun and Daddy LL.
