The Scottish Politics thread

The elephant in the room here is that kids in deprived areas should be marked down as they would normally get poorer exam results than the rich/privileged kids. Opportunity and education in Scotland are just as class/wealth driven as elsewhere. The teachers probably over estimated predicted grades as giving everyone an A is the easy way out - also not really fair to use results from mocks. Most of us arse around and do poorly in mocks, which gives us the kick up the arse to pull our fingers out for the real thing.
No perfect solution, but I'd either make every kid repeat the year or sit the papers (exam conditions are socially distanced) and award grades as per normal percentiles.

Those needing results for Uni and future careers can always resit or retake the year, i know i would.

Many wont give a fuck as they get all they needed and the rest certainly give a shit as they have no intention of further education anyway.

Tough on kids though - a year is like a lifetime for a 16-18 yr old and will feel like the world's longest detention. I'd certainly like my two (below exam age) to repeat the year as I'm not sure the last four months of fucking around on the xbox and watching netflix constitute an education.

It seemingly much tougher on some parents who are living their dreams out very publicly through their kids and whose social media meltdown has caused the climbdown.

The very best will have been given their A's. A few unlucky can always retake the year or resit if they are adamant then need the A for their futures and the rest will be like pigs in shit with their B's and C's which is enough for them and those going into the world of work wont give a shit.

That is a more sensible option than what has happened. I don't know how much of the curriculum has been missed since March but the exam could have taken account of that. All too late but an example of the 'kick the problem down the road' mentality that seems to pervade politics. They have had since March to come up with something a damn sight better than this no-win debacle.

Another day another Ruth Davidson getting handed her Tory arse. Shes a fucking dolt, about to fuck off to the lords with her arse red raw from too many to count pastings.

Good riddance you useless ****.

whilst Nicola‘s response was robust and quite amusing, it doesn’t alter the fact that Swinney is doing a shit job. Education has been a running sore on the record of her government. If he doesn’t resign she should sack him. Honestly mate, they need to be better than this week.

Oh and if anybody doesnt think the SNP will slaughter all comers in the next election, remember those five magic bean deals I have going.

You do realise you're posting on a MANCHESTER City forum with your anti English bullshit. If I were intolerant,I would tell you to fxxk off.Fortunately, there's more Scots with common sense and intelligence, that voted to remain in the UK.

Being a nationalist isn’t being anti anything other than wanting Scotland to be independent. Absolutely nothing wrong with that mate. Completely legitimate political belief.

Is anyone supporting Brexit guilty of anti European bullshit?

Anti-EU bullshit they are, it's not hard to extricate Europeans from the EU.

as an Englishman living in Scotland for 25 years I can’t see any “anti English” sentiment at all in Magicpole’s post.

whereas I’m happy to proclaim that the majority of English people are bellends, Magicpole doesn’t think that.

Even with three massive own goals recently, it seems so, polls suggest no drop in their momentum. Really shows how poor the other parties really are up here at the moment.

Nationalism by definition is love of one’s country at the expense of the other.

identification with one's own nation and support for its interests, especially to the exclusion or detriment of the interests of other nations.

Being a patriot is just the support part, if not sternly supporting one’s nation, hence why I’m a somewhat patriot.

How is this any different than when the left accuse Johnson of covering up his mistakes by attacking the opposition?

Davidson has more class in her shite than Sturgeon will ever have.

It’s a shame, Davidson would have been a great PM.

It really depends what definition you google. I prefer this from The Cambridge Dictionary:

a nation's wish and attempt to be politically independent

a great or too great love of your own country:
I find it funny how nationalism is a total negative for nearly every person until it boils over into Scottish Nationalism.

Scottish Nationalism is a little delusional as you won’t be independent if you get what you wish.

You’re just swapping London for Brussels, which proves there is an anti English sentiment to it.

What will be interesting is how the SNP manoeuvre if there’s a Starmer led Labour government.

Was just stating a fact, the SNP are on course for a huge win, niothing anti English about that. A lot of English people will be voting SNP.
