This is something that is really concerning, what exactly will his role be next year?

he won't play as a centre back and will be surplus if we keep Gundo and Rodri which we clearly will.

It may be time for him to move on.
I’ve been assuming his role next year would basically be as a player coach, so honestly him being done doesn’t really affect us any more than him just taking a foreign slot, but it’s very clear we need someone with dynamism in the midfield.

our problem is we played poorly, our system was bad. We could have used b. silva in the mid today, our mistake was the starting line up, but it was to easy for them. One or two passes and they were through. The better team one simple as that.

Ferny does have leadership qualities but its not any good if he is finished as regular player

I am genuinely concerned for next season. I think this is the most important transfer window we have had since the summer of 2017.

This team is falling apart and needs major surgery. If money was no object and the following was even remotely realistic, I would be hoping that we would sign the following:

A new RB, CB and LB.

A new CDM and CM.

A new LW (hopefully Torres is the answer) and potentially a new RW.

Arguably a new CF.

Thats 7 or 8 positions where you could argue we need improvement. How can a team that wins the league with 100 points and then follows it up the season after by winning every domestic trophy, require that much surgery the following season?

Our recent forays into the transfer market have been nowhere near good enough and you can only get away with bad purchases for so long. The backbone of this side over the past decade has almost disappeared now and we have signed very few players fit to lace those players boots. It has to change otherwise our 2020s decade will resemble Uniteds 2010s decade.

It’s because we don’t compete for the best players in the transfer market anymore. We only go for guys with release clauses or players with no other serious suitors because we don’t like bidding against other big clubs on fees or wages.

The very last thing we will be doing this summer is signing yet another right back with Walker, Cancelo and Couto plus the Belgian lad already on the books

I agree, there is no chance we are signing a new RB. It doesn’t mean we don’t need one. We will make do with Walker because there’s other more pressing needs and we can’t replace everyone.

I genuinely have little faith in the club to get the right players in.

I mean, after getting Rodri and Cancello last summer?

Walker is excellent for us and Cancelo has come good what’s the problem

At this point I am not really bothered which CB option it is just fucking get one of them, keep them both fit and have them and Laporte play every single game together.

Put together a strong spine of a team on the pitch consistently.

We need to get a back four together consistently on the pitch. More energy in a CM spot, Aouar would be perfect.

I really think Torres is going to have a big impact next season also.

It amazing how many excellent players we have, Walker included, yet find ourselves looking a shadow of our former selves. Maybe they aren’t as excellent as some believe.

I like what I see from Cancelo and maybe he does come good but he has a long way to go yet.

A tad harsh. Rodri is okay, he reads the game well, sure he’s slow but he doesn’t need pace back there. He needs pace around him a settled CB partnership behind him and time to adjust to a quicker league. He’ll be okay.

One thing that is concerning me, is that it feels like Pep doesn't trust the players like he may have used to. I actually think that has more to do with the formation against Lyon than when he's tinkered previously, where I think he was trying to be too clever.

We've seen that the players he really trusts play consistently, and the players he doesn't trust don't play even when it makes sense. The only exception is when there's multiple players he trusts in one position, in which case he rotates the roles. Last season it was only really Delph, maybe Danilo at times, and later Sané that you felt got sidelined.

As the season's gone on, it's gone into overdrive. We've seen almost nothing from Stones and Otamendi. He even went with a 35 year old midfielder and a 19 year old wantaway ahead of them. Zinchenko's been used less and less, and Mendy wasn't used ahead of a right footer at LB against Lyon. He's also resisted using Fernandinho in midfield. David Silva has become an afterthought. Bernardo has been used less and less. Mahrez hasn't started either of these two CL games despite being largely an ever present previously.

And then the attack's weird. I think he's lost some enthusiasm for Aguero. I think he really likes Jesus but I reckon he sees him more as a Muller than a Lewandowski (ie the secondary goalscorer). And I believe he rates Foden but has doubts because of age related issues. We've used a false 9 a lot this year.

Ederson, Walker, Laporte, Gundogan, De Bruyne, Rodri, and Sterling. They all have a place in the team, even if they screw up, whether we rate them or not. He trusts them. Aguero, Jesus, Foden, and Fernandinho, are all on the periphery of that level. Everyone else, there's a question mark.

Some of these guys are deadwood, but you feel a lot need a kick up the backside. For example, Walker for the most part has reacted well to whenever his place has been under threat. Aguero too has historically been like that. And Sterling.

Although a couple of holes need plugging, I think it's VERY important that whoever we sign has an invigorating effect on the squad. We have a lot of players that aren't anywhere near their best that can get back up to that level, but they need a push.

How unlikely is it for Bayern players to sign for Man City? I mean if we were willing to pay...

Both Alaba and Thiago end their contracts next year, they should both be priorities for us.

Also, on a slightly different note, Donnarumma also ends contract next year. I know his agent is Mino Raiola, but I wouldn't mind having him and Ederson on the squad, to keep each other on their toes.

Kimmich and Mbappé would be amazing signings for this squad as well, but I don't think we will be able to sign any of them...

I think it's time for us to part with Bravo, Otamendi, Fernandinho and Gundogan.
