Running thread

Youtube is only a guide. If you've run in Adidas foam itterations before and had no issues, sure you'll be fine.
I ran in Pegasus 35's and people were saying the 37's were a bit narrowerer and clunkier as the heel's taller. I find them brilliant. It's down to you. Don't forget if you don't like them, just return them. With new trainers, always test them out on a dry sunny day. That way you can return them in almost spotless condition without issue. Run in the rain and cake them with mud and they'll no doubt kick off.

Then once you are happy to keep them spray some of this over them every 3-4 months - it'll make water bead off rather than go into the fabric and if your sole is white, mud splashes can be wiped off without staining. I use it on the family shoes - ace for primary kid shoes that get mucky too. Now my Peg 35's have lost their bounce they look great for a casual walking trainer round parks etc. :)

thanks for the suggestion.

after doing over 8 km last night as part of my race i signed up with GNR. My leg was already tingling, shooting pains etc but i didnt feel it much when running.

Well its back even worse this morning. Tried everything including an ice pack, deep heat or the hemp alternative and still nothing.

Set out for a 14-mile LSR this morning and accidentally ran 20 after diverting my route. Couldn't get out of the bath for 2 and a half hours afterwards and the rest of the day is now a write-off! It feels good from a psychological point of view as it's a while since I've run that far and I've got a couple of virtual races coming up (Great North Run and London Marathon).

Are any of you guys managing any decent LSRs with a view to taking part in any races?

Not sure if this is the right place. Took up brisk walking/running 3 months ago as part a as diet(Ive lost 16lbs) but over the last 10 days i think I've developed shin splints in my right leg.

The part where it hurts is red and is sore to touch and is at the bottom on the shin near my foot. When im not moving(sat down or lay down) i dont feel anything but when i try to run or even walk some days after about 5-10 minutes a can definitely feel it and walking or running uphill definalty makes it worse and considering i live in Oldham Town Centre its difficult not to go uphill!! . It like a burning sensation and it gets worse the more i walk.

Tried Ice packs and a compression bandage and they ease the pain but my question are

Is it Shin Splints?

how long does it normally last?

What can any one recommend to make it better.

Really dont fancy a trip to the Dr's or Hospital if i dont need to

Very tough sprint session today and need to check something with the veterans....

I'm mid 40s but my HR was getting to 190+ during the 200m sprints. I was giving it some serious welly in these sprints.

My usual resting HR is 55.

That shouldn't actually be possible should it?

It reduced down to 100ish bpm pretty quickly but surely 190+ isnt physically possible at my age?

I don't see why it shouldn't be possible? Age isn't that much of a factor compared to others. Everyone's different. I'm 42. My RHR is about the same as yours but my max. is over 200.

I concur. But I have only have some knowledge and no experience of heart rate training in my 30 odd years of strictly amateurish running and cycling career......To my detriment probably.

That's a high heart rate! But I'm certainly no expert. I come on here to share my experiences and get excellent free advice from people like @Stuuuuuu and @inchy14.

For the record, I'm 59 and have been running for 18 months, purely for enjoyment and fitness purposes. It has helped me get from 17 stone to 13, though dieting was the main reason for this.

I can do long runs. I managed 14 miles on Monday, ascending 500m in total. I hate running in rain and up hills, and the anaerobic zone is my enemy. For the record, I pushed myself up a steep hill today and managed to get my heart rate to max out at 171.

The best advice I took about running was from here, and it was to run at a conversational pace. Since I started doing this, I have enjoyed my runs much, much more than before.
