Anyone saying things like "we would never operate this or that way", this is the best player of his generation we're on about, rule books are by the way side.

Sometimes you have to recognise your window of opportunity. Planning 3/5 years into the future when we've had Silva, Yaya, Sergio, Zabs, Kompany etc in their prime hasn't won us the one the club want. Sometimes you have to take that chance on the 1/2 year, once in a lifetime, player.

if he has a clause asis suggested then what Barça do doesn’t really come in to it, he’s free to go. What City May do is compensate Barça out of respect and to help them save face but in reality Messi holds the cards here.

I think he would be less than many think. He is only going to consider a couple of clubs and even then it won't all be about the money. If he leaves Barca on a free then paying him 100m in wages over say 2 years is less than many other top players when you add a fee on top of wages.
