The football season officially ended on Sunday. FIFA & UEFA have set calendars for transfer windows, start and end points for the season, international breaks etc. and they updated the international calendar because of coronavirus.

It very much depends on the wording. If it says end of season, Messi's free, if it says July 10th, he's got very little chance.

I expect the wording is related to number of days from the club's last game of the season, or the end of the UEFA calendar. The date August 31st is being bandied about as the deadline according to Messi's camp, it's quite specific.

I think the optics of getting him on a free would really offset the inevitable outpouring of outrage and vitriol from our competitors when people report hes being paid £1m a week. Which is quite important IMO. Sign Messi on a free and you can just point and laugh at Chelsea's £300m window if anyone questions the spending. Also with Koulibaly, a Lb and maybe Aouar happening it might have consequences for building the team around Messi if we have to spend a fee.

Also if Pep and Txiki want to not be seen like PSG were, stealing away Neymar like thieves in the night, him leaving on a free puts 100% of the blame on Bartomeu and the board, and doesn't let them play the card of "the sheikh made us an offer no one could refuse".
I wonder if we can get our lawyers on this? Personally don't want to give them a player swap or any transfer fee. I know Pep is still a Barca fan, I wonder if that effects our offer to them?

I'm pretty sure he's on the record as saying he would absolutely love to watch Messi play every week and cover him, regardless of the club.

He's a United fan, but he's clearly gone native to some extent, he takes the club's side on almost everything, and the United fans hate him, think he's an absolute turncoat.

hes basically a city fan he just can’t admit it haha

If we're all football fans and we love our club then everyone to a man will welcome Messi to city with open arms, personally I just can't get my head round posters who think its a waste of time or a bad move.

It's not even a gamble, the lad has only just turned 33, he's got miles left on the clock, he's a sponsors dream and our incomings will go through the roof. Even if we get him for a year or he gives us one year of absolute filth every week It's worth the admission fee alone, just seeing him wearing a city shirt will be worth it too.

I can't believe it if I'm honest but nothing will ever compare to the day Gerry Crainey waddled in through the front doors of Maine Road as our new number 9.

They had to widen the doors for the cnut

Even if the wording on the contract doesn't say exactly what the date represents a talented lawyer will still have a field day fighting Messi's corner

There is no negative If we sign Messi

Financially is a huge win.

On the pitch in dubious.

Having been told the numerous stories about Marsh by my old man I'm just feeling a bit reticent.

I also hope blues are prepared for the tsunami of spite and bile that will come with the transfer should it occur.

To go with the ongoing tsunami of spite and bile we've endured over the past few years?
For once, and that's if he comes, I will get a bucket of popcorn and I shall embrace the meltdown and bitterness the media and fans of other teams throw our way.

Reports seem to suggest it states the date but Messi thinks it should be extended due to the extended season... would have thought lawyers had already been through this and Messi must be confident he can go now. Not got the first idea as to how complicated his contract of employment is, but it's probably one of those that gets settled by Messi leaving but Barca still getting some sort of transfer fee out of it and both parties being as happy as they can be in these circumstances.

It's a big loss of revenue for them.

Interesting to see if it turns into a huge legal case or as you say his Lawyers are very confident that he can leave without a fight.
