Same as ladyboy carrying Madrid.
I think maybe there is a bi difference between Messi and Ronaldo. Always they were compared. I see Ronaldo as a goal-hanger and rather a selfish player who would sulk if his team scored and he didn't. The team would be play for him rather than the other way around. In the case of Messi I think he has carried the Barcelona side and this is too much. Messis scored and scores great individual goals but more than anything he knits the team together whereas Ronaldo is the finisher who wants the goals. They play in slightly different positions though so perhaps an unfair comparison.

This is one of the only times where I am not even thinking about where/how he will fit into the team or what will be his impact. Just love being the club associated with this magician if this comes through. Sometimes trophies make you happy, but this time it is just the thought of seeing him in sky blue.
I know it's a results game eventually but I really don't care for now.
It’s because he is joy. There’s no other way to describe it.

There has to be to this than meets the eye
I can’t believe that the contract is not specific with regards to the release clause
We’re talking the difference between 0 and 700m

Quit trying to score points. I can take a sentence from anyones comments and try and ridicule it.

I am excited about Messi signing and want to discuss it with other City fans. There's no need to be so continually hostile.

Read your recent posts, and concur with your sentiment. If he does come , there will be issues. New country, new language, new culture, then on the field. How does the team set up to accommodate him, because that is what we would need to do. The rest of the team would be serving Messi, that isn't being critical it is a fact, and one the coaching team would need to address.
Well done for raising your head above the parapet. Much more sensible than the continued mantra....
It's Messi ffs, fuckin lionnel messi.

That's my thoughts but as you said
Ronaldo is the finisher.
I would just add he likes the glory also, which I detest.

If Messi's 700m buyout no longer exists because he's in his final year that would also mean that his ability to leave on a free (before his final year) is no longer applicable, no?

However, if he's in his final year, can he not but himself out of his contract? Even if he's on £1m a week, that's only £52m.

I also
Disgusting propaganda again. We will soon be in the middle of a media shit storm. Winning the battle for hearts and minds is tough. Messi if he comes will help us change that perception. KAM said it himself “we don’t care what anyone else says”.

Fuck them blues and embrace the hatred.
Who cares what the haters think, we know the truth. It is absolutely killing the press, rags and dippers that little old City have been able to attract Pep and now Messi. Remember Pep was the bald fraud when he rocked up, I wonder what shit will be thrown at the GOAT when he arrives, I for one hope it’s a lot because it will spur him on even more to prove these idiots wrong. Who knows, like some poster said he could do a Teddy Sheringham and stay a lot longer than anybody thought. Now that would boil some urine.

I've never understood this... Why couldn't Sane buy himself out then? We got like 50m for him but the contract couldn't be worth more than 5-10m.
I’ve read that this is the ‘going nuclear’ option which is why it’s hardly ever used. Players have faith in their clubs to negotiate in good faith, and in return they don’t destabilise the transfer market. However, Barcelona are acting on very bad faith here, therefore Messi would be justified in kicking his heels in.

It could be assumed that this scenario would represent a (further) power transfer from clubs to players; I don't think any club wants to start that chain reaction.

Any update overnight? In the lakes for the weekend with virtually no internet so hard to keep track of what’s happening.

I'm glad it's not just me. During most transfer windows I'm pretty relaxed about who we bring in, I trust the club to get the transfers right and its always interesting to get linked with a player I don't know much about...

This transfer is completely different, I'm not even embarrassed about how all in for this one I am. It's not any random player, it's Lionel Messi... Lionel. Messi. It still feels surreal writing a post about. Not only that, but he wants to come to City!

Barca clearly aren't making it easy for him to leave and anything can happen, so I'm not going to celebrate until its official... but City, favourites to land the best player in the world! I can't stop smiling!

You’re not kidding.

Gerry Crainey. Lee Bradbury. Gordon Davies. Paul Sugrue.

And Leonel fucking Messi.
