Regardless of intention or original statements of desire to leave it probably comes down to when the burofax was sent.That's the point I am making, if his father/agent informed Barca in March that he would be leaving, his release from the contract should not be a major issue.
Not ideal in any scenario, Ake is a good squad upgrade , but we need a worldie alongside Laporte, and hopefully someone with serious leadership skills and pace.

Dial back two weeks before any of this happened and ask the same question and most people would probably say yes. Whether or not Messi arrives shouldn't change that view IMO.

Is it some form of self comfort in case he doesn’t come? If so it won’t help with actual disappointment if he stays at Barca.
It doesn’t add anything of use to the thread. If you can’t take the ups and downs of the transfer window stay off it.

See what I'm hoping, is that the lawyers were so rightfully confident that Messi could send the burofax off when he did that they advised him to wait and not do it until when he did so as not to rock the boat and impact their league/CL chances. You're doing that classic thing of completely writing off a player's personal life.
Moving to another country where you won't speak the language, uprooting and probably unsettling your children, leaving a club you have adored and have given you so much and being in the midst of a pandemic where thousands of people are dying and with no end in sight.

He probably wants his children to learn and speak English, even Pep said it. I heard they are going to an english school in Barcelona, maybe Messi also wants to learn English which would help him in case he moves to America inn future which would increase his global appeal. Let's just hope !

But he didn’t have to say I want the free transfer clause activated and I want to go to city. He could have gone to several clubs, had we stayed banned, or even re-signed for Barca.City were under a European ban from UEFA at that time.
Think about it , we are not going to pay him eight million a month
£96m a year? That will be in the ballpark.
It just won't all go down as salary.
