Pity Messi didn’t say at the end of his statement “In January I can speak to other clubs I’ll be talking to Manchester City” end it there like that!(that’s assuming City still want him).

Now I think he will stay at Barcelona till he retires.

Barcelona have announced they will not fine messi for the days he has skipped training. All is well then, happy camp (nou) again

As a family man as are many on here I couldn't help but feel sad to hear how is eldest son begged him to not move to a new country and not change schools. These issues are sometimes forgotton and taken for granted amongst all football fans.

Personally, if I had all the money like he has and achieved what he has achieved then to upset my kids like that would be too difficult to do, just for a fresh challenge.

Then again I am a soft arse.

I’m 50 - I don’t have kids, and never really wanted kids, but even I can empathise with this. Messi may well have all the money in the world and as such his kids will never be wanting for anything, but like the rest of us he and his kids are human beings and have feelings. Everyone is different - some of us don’t mind moving around and see it as an adventure but others feel more comfortable with familiar surroundings. Reading between the lines, it does sound to me that Messi had eventually got his son onside with the idea of a new life elsewhere.

To score 30 goals per season & win us the quadruple.
But he won't do that at Barca because he's sulking and will deliberately skupper the chances of the club he supposedly loves and that presumably his kids support? Whilst also ruining the reputation he's built both at Barca and as a worldwide brand?
I guess a 34 year old who's played a handful of games in a season and not scored will have teams falling over themselves to give him a big contract when he drags his crying kids away from their mates next summer.

When did Messi did this interview with goal.com, I am sure it was not today.

Meaning they knew they gonna do this at least 1 or two days ago. Did they let City know of this?
He’ll have done this after the Bartomeu meeting, when everyone started reporting “he stays”. Seemed like bullshit at the time, but this interview taking place will have leaked. And I’m guessing this is the interview tolmie heard about but perhaps was given false info as to the nature of it.

We such a nice club! if it was PSG they would of just told Messi come here on a free we will sort it out if it’s in court or not.

Did you see Barca, with Messi, v Bayern Munich ?

How is it working out for them ?

Did they look like a happy team, to you ?

We go again. Etc and so on.

This is the logical next step. Flood the media with news that we are going to sign him to a precontract on the first day of the January window.

Take away the 1 victory Bartomeu is claiming - that Messi won't leave the club under his presidency.

After that he's faced with Messi being unhappy and mouthing off, a growing pressure at the club and in the fans that he's betrayed their greatest player, and the realisation that €200m+ that he desperately needs is walking out the door.

Some people need to get a grip.

Look at his statement

1. He clearly wants to leave - he has stated that. - We all know its us he wants to come to - there is no other team he wants - look at his use of the word project - that says city all over it.

2 He has absolutely destroyed the ownership of Barca - when has any other player ever come out and taken such a blatant swing at a club chairman and board before

3. He has said he has been unhappy for a while - in his football, in the dressing room, at training - this wont sit well with his team mates.

4. His best friend (Suarez) is being sold

We as club havent done anything but support him - he will know this.

Id expect city to put a bid in for him...now this is where it gets interesting - Remember Barca have publically stated they want Garcia - there is no way we will sell Garcia to them if they refuse to even negotiate for Messi - and which is worse..having the best player in the world and your club capt/legend unhappy or a 21 year old squad player? We can let Garcia sit in the stands for a year (we already have Ake and will get another centre half) - we risk losing 15m tops by letting him go on a free - Barca risk losing 80-100m plus for Messi - and they are in a financial mess - we aren so who is more desperate for the money?

If we put in a bid now the pressure on the board to sell will be from all angles; players, some of the fans (reluctantly) and Messi himself as well as the financil pressure - they need to rebuild- they want Garcia they wont get him without doing business with us - there could even be pressure added from that angle.

Worst comes to the worst - he doest go anywhere, signs a pre-agreement with us in January and we get him for free - even for a year minimum thats worth it -the only thing that would stop that is a bad injury to him
All sounds good but to be honest I don't trust Messi. He overplayed his hand when he didn't have the cards. Resigned, didn't train etc but turns out his contract wasn't so clear cut. Got us on board. And then at the last minute pulls the plug.
Whether this was done with other motives we can't be sure. But I reckon Khaldoun etc will not be amused.
In addition if he were to sign a pre contract in January the rest of the season will all be about his arrival rather than the team.

Not for me. It was now or never. He has 2 years at the very top left imo.

He's the best player in the world now.

If in 12 month he's only the best player in the PL, and in 24 months he's only a good starting player for us, you still sign him, he still has the transformative effect off the pitch.

He just doesn't get anywhere like as much money.
