Elections are in March so I can see victor font winning and convincing Messi to renew.

for me this is done
He doesn’t want to be part of a rebuild. He stated that he wanted to challenge for trophies in his remaining years, he isn’t going to do this a Barca in my opinion.

the Barca that’s the love of his life ?He will extend then when his legs are gone he’ll fuck off to MLS. Probably L.A

Good interview - gutting to know how close we were to getting him.

Barca have made a dogs dinner out of this situation - their president is a fooking numpty!

Looking at that

1. Its clear he wants out and has done for a while

2 How do the board, other players progress from here - he was directly crticial of the board but indirectly critical of the squad - no plan no direction...papering over holes - what will the other players think?

3 He says that him leaving is the "best for the club" - this is a powerful statement - regardless of what happens now he has the barca fans on side as they know if he leaves he is doing it for the love of the club. Messi knows that Barca need o rebuild - and are better off doing ti without him) - this puts pressure on the board now to buy as well (they have just given Rakatic away and Suarez is on his way)

(on a side not ive just read that they will now have to pay him £63m loyalty bonus for not leaving - so thats potentially 163m they could lose with the potential for him leaving on free in the future (factoring in that if they went for a negotiation they could ask around 100m for him) - for a club looking to rebuild and in huge debt (and one that has jut been criticised as papering over the holes recently)

City need t put a bid in to test their resolve. The president is under investigation and has had a vote of no confidence - the rest of the board may look at this and say selling Messi now is in the best interests of everyone -

4 weeks to go and plenty of time for something to change.

Still not convinced this has completely played out. Bartomeu could be personally liable for tens of millions of losses if he loses the election. By keeping an unhappy Messi, he'll have to pay him for another season, plus pay a supposed €65m loyalty bonus plus allow him to leave on a free in the summer. So let's say that's €165m at least.

By selling him now, he could potentially get €100-125m in fees then save that €165m. So Barca could be nearly €300m better off selling him now. A company director has a legal duty to act in the best interests of the company, which he isn't doing.

Be interesting to see who blinks first.
Pretty sure City aren’t willing to pay a fee like that for him. It’s been made clear we were banking on Barca letting him walk away for free.
If we were happy to pay 100 plus million for him I reckon he’d already be a city player.

I agree that it's not over but is it even worth paying a 100m+ fee when we could agree to sign him in 4 months on a free? Tolm said that we were still talking to him this morning so even City might think that's best all round.

Just saying, Bart owes fortunes, paying Messi 88.8 mill plus loyalty bonus of 68 mill and losing his presidency will cost him a reported 460 mil loss, take away his wages and bonus, circa saves 156 mill, if we were to offer 100 plus Garcia means he loses a lot less millions

Just said similar on Twitter. How many millions are they in debt? And they want to keep a player against his will and lose even more money?

City chuck in a £100m bid, they'd be mad to just dismiss it.

Does not make financial sense whatsoever

Fuck sake will those obsessed with locking threads piss off and read another thread, or forum! It’s so weird.

Anyway. Surprised Messi is getting flack on here, it’s obvious he wants to go, he’s done everything he can apart from take Barca to court and we can’t blame him for not wanting to.

Sometimes, things just don’t align the way you want them to and Messi to City just looks doomed to happen for one reason or another. Still a niggling feeling this isn’t over yet, either now or in January but best we treat it as nothing more than a bonus if we do ever see him in blue.

I can't escape the idea that if he had one of these hard nosed gits like Riaola as his agent he would have been out the door the day he activated the contract cancellation. I am no fan of them personally but for players they do seem to get the job done.
