Kalidou Koulibaly

It would be great in theory, defensively but we would have to see how Ake coped on the ball & how much damage he did to our possession game.

I have no doubt he'd do well. Had an 86% passing percentage yesterday, sure at LB-position but he can pass a ball well.
Rodri fumbled a lot with the ball in this position on several occasions this season so I have no doubt Aké can do well, maybe even a bit better.

He's generally pretty basic with his passing though. We'll have to see what his limits are once Pep gets him.

No he doesn't, and I hope that changes quickly. He's a bit of a Busquets-type but maybe we could have had more use of a Fabinho type, as he's like a younger Fernandinho. I really hope Rodri steps up his game this season, because from a defensive standpoint, he didn't add anything and that's a bit frightening considering what we paid for him.
Quality footballer no doubt but he need to add to that defensive side of his game. He is way too easy to get past.

Looking at all of our defenders and their latest form, I'd say the very best back-four (including CDM) and if Koulibaly joins, would be:

Aké
Cancelo - Laporte - Koulibaly - Walker

This would be incredibly difficult to face for any team in Europe.

You'd have Aké to get past before even reaching a world-class back four, and with his physicality he wins about 75% of all ground duels, he's lightning fast and knows how to slide-tackle. If you still managed to get past him you have Walker's incredible speed, Koulibaly's speed, stature and pain-in-the-ass slidetackles, Laporte's strenght and intelligent positioning and Cancelo's press to deal with.

This would hands down become the leagues best defense, so I hope this deal is concluded soon.

Not if they were all positioned on the half way line and it was knocked over the top for some fast **** to run on to.

I don’t know, it was a dirty trick they pulled, if we leave them hanging on it will teach them a lesson and send a message to the wider footballing community to not mess us around. Otherwise others will try similar stunts on us in the future.
Very true but he knows that we really need a KK type centre back so we can’t really go anywhere else. That is our predicament, let’s hope we can get this one over the line sharpish.

See that's more like it, rather than the outrageous original quote about specific incidents in which you couldn't possibly know what would happen.
It’s all hypothetical really. We will never know how KK would have reacted, in that Lyon game, because he wasn’t playing for us. In general though we will probably more solid defensively if we sign him.

Not enough pace or pressence.

Several of us have wondered if Garcia could make a def mid. He looks nowhere near a top cb prospect to me, but if he was in the squad & signed a contract as a young def mid, who can learn to fill in at cb, I'd have more time for him.

The upgrade Koulibali would bring in all areas of defending, compared to him, is obviously immense, I don't see how Garcia can bridge that gap even in ten years.

I love this , what a jerk, why would we want to talk to him after last time

Apparently, Garcia is staying for another year.

How do you know?

Good news as it means we’re selling both Otamendi and Stones. I know Garcia wants out but he’s still more talented than both of his seniors. I’d be very happy with Kouli, Laporte, Aké and Garcia for a year, until we figure out who takes the fourth spot.
