The guy running for president has said it ,I think, sorry wouldn't know where to find it now,he must believe in his ability to do well and keep his job

yep

its daft from ronald koeman and walking away from a top job at international level just so he can have a year or so at barca, the new president campaign is under way and the leader has promised he will bring back Xavi and build a new barca with the end of Lionel Messi and working on him moving ??

Particularly if said player has gone to the lengths Messi has to tell the world he wants off, how long he’s wanted off and basically called the President a liar and incompetent. And certainly when that same player can negotiate with a new club to leave for free in 9 months

To turn down 100mil in those circumstances is absurd, in my view. If City put money on the table, Barca would have to seriously consider it

It may not be over for this window but given Barça it probably is

As for getting him in January, that’s not a certainty. Particularly if Guardiola’s future is still up in the air. It’s time for Guardiola to commit before City do anything further with this potential transfer

If it is crazy for barcelona to turn down a 100m bid for a player in the last few months of his contract (it IS), it must be equally crazy for a club to offer 100m for a player in the last few months of his contract (it IS).

Leave well alone City.

To offer 100m now, or even 25m, for a player who has publicly turned down the chance to join us more than once would be the definition of insanity, desperation, and inferiority complex.

I sincerely hope that City publicly announce in the next few months that we are not interested in acquiring his services. At any time. At any price. For any reason.

City are bigger than messi, we need to start acting like it.

Mate, he’s literally done everything he can possibly do to force a move to City, other than going to court and making us potentially liable for €700m.

He’s not “snubbed”us. He’s actively tried to engineer a move to us.

He did not turn up for training for 3 days and asked to leave, the President said no, you can't leave for free. His Dad comes over to sort it out, the result, a nice pasta meal, a meeting and no resolution.
Messi then comes out and says he is staying but reluctantly because they won't let him leave for free, and he loves the club so much he won't take them to court!
To be fair, I would not say those are the actions of a man that is desperate to leave the club, especially one at 33 , coming to the end of his top flight career.

In ordinary circumstances I would agree. But Messi isn’t ordinary, he would be well worth the 100mil to us because City/the Group would have him for around 5 years at least. Barça will have him for a further few months

Messi, if we got him, would be the best player in the team. That in itself is a reason to but him

Crazy for Barca to turn down, not crazy to make the offer. Barca may only have him for another season but we’d have him for 5.

He would be worth a lot of money to the CFG via NYCFC, I am still not convinced about the financials he would bring to us , Manchester City, especially with no crowds in stadiums for a majority of this season.

the thing is if messi really wants out and barca will take £100 million then city should pay it and agree to take it out of the his wages £20million over 5 years what is £20million to messi each year

Yes, great point, and you think he would do it? Let's test how much he does want to come to us!

yep

lets see if messi really wants out because of football reasons and not money

city should call his hand and if he wants out then make it happen, even if barca take the £100 million ? they would be daft not to messi and city will recoup £100 million over the 5 years anyway

Why use the next 4 years transfer budget on one player - 33 years old when most clubs are trying to lower the average age of their 1st team ?

Crazy for Barca to turn down, not crazy to make the offer. Barca may only have him for another season but we’d have him for 5.

Until he was 38.

It would be utterly insane to tie up 100s of millions of pounds over the next 5 years on this man. Absolute madness. Incomprehensibly crazy.

If we'd got him at 27/28 then it would have been immense but to sign him, with or without a fee, at 34 (which he would be next season) at a time when we would need to replace Sergio, fernandinho, probably a full back or two (next year), and possibly another CB, at a time when covid has drastically reduced incomes for all teams would be so damaging as to be almost reckless.

Please God no.

You can word it differently.

Messi says he doesn't want to take them to court but it is the opposite. It would have been Barça (with the help of La Liga and all possible political ramifications) that would have taken Messi to court.

Messi was threatened to go to jail with his latest judicial problems. I can understand why he doesn't want to go through that. Messi isn't running a charity (in fact he does have a charity foundation but it is to make more money) either, he wouldn't risk losing money if he was to lose in a trial.

You are right, he could have waited the end of the window to come back to training but he doesn't have much of a choice if Bartomeu is not budging from his position.

You wanted Messi to fly over to Manchester and put on the City shirt ? It would have put him and your club into trouble.

The only fault of Messi is not having used the clause in the due time.

We would make the 100m spent on him 10 times over with him playing for us, much more than even winning the Champions league .

You are naive if you think top players like to lose money.

People talking about Cristiano Ronaldo testing himself in another league. He left Real Madrid because Perez didn't want to give him the wage he wanted. Coincidentally, Italy introduced a new tax regime and he went to Juventus.

Make no mistake, Messi won't give away his money. Otherwise, his family wouldn't have done so many shenaningans with money being paid to his foundation.

This clause is the issue. Does he have this clause or is he mistaken?

Did the President give Messi his word, that at the end of the extended season he could leave for free?

If the clause is so obvious, Messi would win the court case easily and maybe Barca would relent before it even got to court.

If and he clearly seems desperate to leave, why not negotiate with Barca to pay off the final year of his contract and thus become a free agent?

You just said everything in your post above, MONEY.

At 33 with more money than anyone would know what to do with, finding happiness in your football for the last few years of your career should be your only wish?
