Messi plans to train next Monday, August 31, under the orders of Ronald Koeman in what will be the coach's first training session since becoming Barcelona head coach. Until the dispute over his contract is solved, Messi wants to give the feeling of normality and, as such, he will go to the club's training ground. The 33-year-old does not want to meet with club president Josep Maria Bartomeu. The president wants to speak with the player directly and try to convince him not to leave, but the Argentine does not plan on talking to him.

If he does sign for City I can't wait for the media reaction. I reckon it'll be on the lines of;

Obscene wages as to secure mercenary signing.
Why CR7 is better than Messi.
United refused to budge on Messi wage demands ( they didn't want him anyway )
If pep doesn't win the Champions League this season, his whole career is tarnished.
How does the Messi signing affect City and FFP.

It'll be hilariously negative.
Will be get a hateful letter to the Prem saying it not fair and they’ll scream and scream and .....

Would they run the same opinion, if Utd were in for him?
I could Read the same contract once and concisely and with good legal precedent make a case for almost clause to mean both sides of the legal argument. Ignore what you read in the press regarding the legal side. They are getting people to tell their readers what they think they want to hear...

The transfer fee is the sticking point as we can’t have another legal case hanging over us, so do need to come to an agreement with Barca.

We can only hope that they appreciate Messi’s wishes and do not price him out, which they could.

Signing Messi would be a watershed moment for any club, but for us it would be beyond measure. It would given credence and respect to what we have achieved.

It would be the moment that set us on our path to becoming a true top tier of club, above Paris, Liverpool etc.

Where people say the deal will pay for itself, it will but probably not as quickly as people assume. However, the legacy of signing him for his 3 years of playing might move the project 10 years on. It will have a significant impact on his catching United up in terms of revenue and pulling away from Chelsea/ Arsenal etc.

For those worried about age, take confidence in the fact Messi would only come here if he feels he can enhance his reputation by doing so.

He has all the money he ever needs and he would need this move to be a success to enhance his reputation.

He would be extremely motivated!

We might also get to see Pep for another 3 years if this deal goes through.

Quite simply put it’s a game changer
We haven’t got a legal case hanging over us, have we?
