Ironically, I’ve only been reminded of it by your post pushing it up the new posts page. Last few posts on here seem to be like a game of ‘last word’ you’d have with your teenage kids.

Pretty obvious reason for that imo anyway.
He plays for our club and were rightly proud of his achievements.
We're more invested in him than other football fans.
Now he's been chucked out of the national team, (after a long wait to get there) some City fans feel a sense of disappointment at his behaviour trying to get one over on the England squad and management.

I think phil is a fantastic talented long term city player, cant wait to honour him at his testimonial, line the streets with smoke and banners.

He should have said.

It could be argued that it is a good thing that something like this happens so early in his career.

it’s good to make mistakes as long as he learns not to make the same mistake twice.

the only thing keeping this going is the media trying to drag it out. With the season starting it should disappear, probably re-surface in October at the next international break. Southgate would be best place Reinstating him in the squad and move on or else the leaches in the press won’t let go.
