Wolves (A) Post-Match Thread

fantastic first half,level drooped slightly second half,letting wolves back in it but it was expected,some great performances and only first game in,g.jesus was constantly running and chasing pleased he got his goal,and a tough game navigated away from home which will see teams fail to come away with any points ..
 
good win, we got nothing here last season.

Some shaky moments in second half shows there is a lot to improve still off the ball/defensively. Wolves changed pace around 50th minute and within 15 minutes they could have scored 3 goals , they had the chances. That not good enough. Lyon scored the same chances and we were out of CL.

Last season these chances usually went in for opponents, luckily today they were missed.

Other than that it was good, Stones and Mendy just not good enough imo for us, Ake did for a debut between Mendy and Stones.

Pep needs to work hours and hours and even more hours on off the ball game. We had today Ferna and Rodri as a duo if we had a more attacking midfield, defence would have been under more pressure imo.

I hope Wolves will do take points off of rivals at home. Hope everything they missed today goes in when they play Pool.

Torres did not have time to show his skills.

I hope Pep is not gonna put out a fairly strong team for Carabao. Lets save that for the PL. But he has a habit even playing KDB 90 minutes in League cup early round for no reason.
Get some youth in there.
 
Sadly, Mendy and Stones have proven time after time that they are simply not goo enough. The injuries have knackered Mendy and Stones never really got any better.

I would hate to go into this season with any unnecessary baggage, or at least without any backup in these positions.
 
First game ticked off. Not surprised the lads couldn’t keep up the pressing. First competitive game after all.

Glad Fernandinho played in midfield. Solid debut from Ake. Things to be worked on but glad they got the win.

Upwards and onwards.

That slowed their passing and our press was superb.

We physically dropped for the first 15 mins of the second half and we gave up a chance.

Then KDB got megged and they score from a decent cross.

We then dominated the game through game management.

Ake looked really good.
Best I’ve seen Stones play in about 18 months.
The number 25 seems really good in midfield.
Jesus got battered and got nothing, but deserved his goal at the end.
Mendy I thought played pretty well. Very good positionally and some signs of progression in his passing. Sure, Traore got past him a few times, but didn’t do anything with it as he is Traore.

All in all, a really impressive first game and not one I was expecting, but really happy we have our mojo and more importantly, our press back.

A good report mate.
You are correct, it was the press that stopped for that ten minute period, then any high line defence looks creaky.

Pep then made kdb and Foden play narrower which wrestled control back.
