Really wanted Koulibaly but the fee was too much. Dias was much cheaper and probably better value for money long term. So I understand the club’s decision.

For two reasons I am pleased we have moved on from KK. Firstly, given the previous, I have no idea why anybody thought we could deal sensibly with ADL and Napoli. The bloke is like some dodgy car dealer and we should forget ever negotiating with him. Secondly, more importantly, the age of KK worried me for the size of the fee. We already have an injury prone squad, year in year out. Older players get injured more, especially after 30, we cannot afford to risk another one. Diaz is 23, scope to develop and hopefully robust in fitness terms.
