Pep Guardiola - 2020/21 Performances

We should get Pearce back in. It's no coincidence that West Ham won 4-0 last night when he was there and Moyes wasn't.

I'm only posting this here because this is the last thread I've caught up on in this forum.

I understand we lost, in an extremely dismaying manner, and that's highly upsetting and annoying. I get it.

But the way some of you have written about City players (and Pep) in these threads in the aftermath is disgusting. Threads filled with people suggesting players are awful. Or awful buys. Or played in the wrong position. Or too old. Page after page after page. It disappoints me greatly and has been difficult to read some of the bile posted.

You don't have to pretend and say they played well, because even I know they were collectively shite, at the minimum. But to be so extreme and horrible about the players and personnel of the club you're "supposed" to support is shameful. So many of you must have spent decades hating United fans for how soulless they are and yet here you all are.

Based on this I have great sympathy for some of the friends and family of posters on here. It must be a fucking warzone with you lot around any time they have an off day given how quick you are to explode in rage.

Get a grip.
See you all tomorrow.

Brendan Rodgers became a meme but he’s an excellent manager. We could do a lot worse post Pep.

He’s not utterly talentless, but his inability to get Liverpool over the line in 2014 and abject failure to arrest Leicester’s abysmal form with a Champions League place on the line are huge red flags for me.

Ultimately he’s won a few pots with Celtic while the one other team in Scotland imploded.

Hopefully when the injured players are back and with the new signings, we can go again - otherwise a few signs now that his message isn’t getting through to the players as it used to

You don’t get the feeling any more that Pep can change a game with his genius. I think he’s run his course at City and it’s fucking depressing. Love him, but there is little reaction from the players any more to his ideas. Or, his ideas are just stale.
Not sure he ever has for us. Once we start to slide he just throws his arms and water bottle about but does sweet feck all to change the game.

Honestly Pep needed a real off-season to get this team up to standard again. We should've completed our transfer business early enough to get the players in and acclimated.

Not making excuses for Pep because while he's made questionable decisions and his mood has been terrible going by his demeanor during press conferences, the players need to perform better.

It's a discussion forum. The ostrich approach doesn't cut it.

Definitely seems to focus more on the attacking strategy than defensive and if that isn't the case the current defensive strategy is clearly not working.

If he is going to persist with this high line we should be employing a specialist to make the defence work with the midfield as one unit. i.e. either step up as a defence to get the attackers offside or get some pace in the midfield to either close down the balls teams are playing down the channels or who can chase down the forwards before they get to the box. We're currently far too static in these areas & are relying on reactionary measures to get us out of trouble which is clearly not working well if we don't bang the goals in at the other end.

Not his fault. If 2 players out of 11 are shite, then a stroke of genius can cover up the faults. But expecting genius tactics alone to cover up the limitations of 6 different players is madness. If that was even possible, teams would buy sunday league players, pay the coach 200 million and just the win the match on tactics alone. The players have to perform. It's not the tactics forcing Mendy to concede an awful pen. The game is played on the pitch, not on a whiteboard. Players get praised after great performances, they should take 95% of the blame after a loss too.
Disagree . He’s manager it’s his job to do the basics select ,plan, adapt ,motivate . Didn’t see any of that again,

He's lost his mother and his close friend in Arteta has left for London. I think he is drained and could end up walking if he believes he can't give us his all. It would be very sad seeing him go out like that. On the other hand he could get a grip of this squad and we have an amazing season who knows!

I wish we had proper football journalism in this country. “Pep, Leicester seemed to be able to play balls in behind your back line really easily today. Why was that?”

Instead it’s just abject shit-stirring looking for headline quotes about referees or VAR or criticizing players. Waste of everyone’s time

His public demeanor is hardly inspiring when in interviews so far. Looks disinterested to me in extending his contract.
I think he fundamentally disagrees with Football being on in the middle of a pandemic and also, he has sat here for years and had to listen to questions such as "Stan Collymore says you cant come over here with your chicken tikka tiki passing and expect to win hte league, how do you respond?" or the old favourite "Why dont you teach your players to tackle?"

I wouldn't give the media the time of day, they are uninformed fools who by and large know fuck all and are looking for a soundbite. Pep pretty much gives them nothing and does it because hes told he has to.

In Centurions season we conceded 27 goals. The least in the league.
Next season 23 goals. Only LiVARpool conceaded less (1 less).
Last year 35 goals. Again only LiVARpool conceaded less (2 less).

Guardiola has holistic approach.
Everything matters.
Without that we would not be as successful as we were.
