you could argue we should have been doing this for the last 6 weeks

No basis?
So we didn’t accidentally put a reference to koulibaly in our website?

good point re mendy. We should play him every week now rather than let him be shit, financially it makes no difference...bit like him on the pitch!
I said loan out btw not sit in stands

as for alaba not wanting to come ‘by all accounts’ was koulibaly and kounde not our first picks ‘by all accounts’

Yep - no basis. Khaldoon has already stated we have a number of options we look at for each position, so taking him at his word I expect we had three or four angles we were working. It’s not as simple as just picking a player and trying to sign him - there are too many variables for such a simple approach (it would be particularly naive when dealing with ADL to assume anything will do according to plan). So I’m quite sure we were planning to fill the right footed CB position - not just for Koulibaly alone. Dias was part of these plans, clearly.

And our unprofessional media team putting collateral together for a Koulibaly release really has no bearing on our football operations’ plans for the season. I doubt it was ever that close. They were clearly putting together the framework for a cb signing, and used KK as the most likely option at the time. Which emphasises the point on the disconnect!

And I never advocated playing Mendy as first choice - I said I think we’ll bring a new first choice LB in if we can, and Mendy will then be back up. Which will take the pressure off, and allow us to play him in lesser games to try and get some kind of form back into him. No one is going to loan him now, unless we pay most of his wages - they’d basically be doing us a favour - so we might as well try and rebuild him.

And if Alaba ever ends up joining City, I’ll come back on here, apologise to you and admit I was wrong. I believe we looked at him given his contract situation earlier this summer, but signed Ake (who would fill the same left footed cb, and back up lb/dm role) instead. That certainly suggests there was no deal to be done.

Still puzzled why we need to offload Zinchenko. If the official site is correct we only have 16 foreign players. Am I missing something?

Think I saw an earlier poster explaining something like one of our homegrown actually counts as a foreign spot for some reason. So right now we cant bring in unless we ship out.

Haha, couldn't agree more!

I'll add 'Double Pivot' and 'Low Block' into the mix as well.....you know what they mean and what people are talking about, but bloody hell, people just trying to sound clever, trendy and technical....does my head in :)
You can add them if I'm allowed to add "upgrade", "CDM" and "EPL".

so we can have a better bargaining with the clubs where our target LB is playing. Plus for is respect and for financial reason.

It's touch and go on the left-back, but the club are certainly open to it.

The links to Alaba are very interesting. Pep asked for him and we did propose including him in the deal for Sane but the player was not keen on moving to England and had his heart set on a move to Real Madrid.

For whatever reason, that hasn't come about and perhaps he might be open to it now.

Personally, I would love to bring him in and we would be getting a top player with the right attitude for three different positions.

It's the kid from Ajax which is the easier to do, however. His agents have been touting him all around England.

Do you think it's so important to Pep/Txiki to include Carson as 3rd keeper in our CL squad
instead of an additional field player (like let's say Aouar
or a striker on loan),
esp. in times of a mad match schedule and probably more self-isolations coming up during a tough winter season?

I don't. I expect an additional player incoming.

We can include a U21 keeper instead of Carson (we have to have 3 keepers in our CL squad, at least 2 on the A list).

Carson is allowed in our squad for domestic matches though, mainly as 2nd keeper for cup matches.

Does it definitely hinge on Zinchenko leaving?

We desperately need a decent left back, we got away with it for two seasons with Delph and Zinchenko but it was a weak spot all last season. Hopefully the centre half problem is solved now.

Are we in for anyone in midfield or a back up striker? The latter is another big problem and even Cavani on a free would help.
