There are only 2 million people in Sweden who are over 65, that same group is x6 larger in the UK and the spreader group (18-40) is much larger.

In terms of obesity we are the 40th worst country, Sweden is 103rd. There are more people from BAME backgrounds... The list goes on.

You cannot compare any country by a single variable because obviously there are a countless number of them.

It's like comparing an apple with a brick.
I’m not comparing by a single variable, I was just responding to a poster who was comparing the U.K. population density with Sweden’s, that’s all.

Sweden's economic impact has been a bad as ours.

When we tried voluntary restrictions very briefly in March, everyone ignored them.

Sweden has a massively lower populating density than us, and far more single person households.

Sweden has killed more people than any other Scandinavian country, and nearly as many as we have per capita.

Inconvenient facts.
Everyone ignored them?

Agree they are better at Social distancing, check this out... I think it addresses your second point.

The mail is not the most reputable source...

Again, there is no evidence whatever (case numbers, serology, deaths) that more people have been echoed in Sweden than here.

And if Sweden did have herd immunity, how could cases be rising there?

the economics fact is wrong

the deaths one is right .

its not just economics it’s the way of life. Doing normal things which they have pretty much done throughout .

whether they have got it right ( or wrong) we will see over this winter with their level of immunity v others And how deaths compare over the next few months.
Some of the economic indicators are quarterly and we won’t know the end of September performance for a while yet. Sweden’s GDP performance in the quarter to June was comparable with their neighbours, Denmark.

I guess the real point is not the obsession with Sweden but what is strategy to overcome the virus And get our lives back to normal as best we can.
ignore the vaccine as we don’t know when or if that is coming so...

mine is ring fence care homes, protect support the vulnerable and everyone else get on with their lives whilst hand washing and maintaining some social distancing.

my sense is the majority view on bluemoon is get yourself a new computer, check your WiFi Is good and Everyone go into full Lockdown Until it’s safe to come out?

Sweden total deaths as at 6th October 5895 = 0.058% of 10.1m

UK total deaths as at 6th October 42369 = 0.062% 0f 68.3m

It may not seem a massive difference but it is in reality especially when you consider the pain the UK had to go to to achieve that figure compared to Sweden.

100%

Herd immunity. Are people still banging on about this premature theory. We will not even know if this is possible for a couple of years.

For the very same reasons we do not know if vaccines will have to be repeated every sixth months, every year or ever once administered. They know that there is some immunity after having the virus but not how long it lasts, likewise they now know the vaccine will work but not for how long it will work.

To even suggest letting this run in order to give herd immunity is really really very stupid imho.

what’s your plan.

nobody is suggesting you let it rip. You focus your protections on those at risk . Have a look at my post.

lets assume we ain’t getting a vaccine for a while , what’s your strategy ?

what is the alternative to herd immunity? Serious question? Because it won’t go on it’s own?

They killed 10x more than other Scandi countries.

Really..? From the "unreliable" daily mail

Swedish economic activity has also started to pick up with the effects of the downturn looking less severe than previously feared.
The economy had shrunk by nine per cent but this too was less than the 20 per cent dip seen in the UK.

This , immunity is not proved and wont be for a while yet , until your dr can look you in the eye and say you have had it a and will never get it again then it is not proven

A vaccine will never be ready to roll out before end of the year , people mistook the scientists saying we will know it is safe and works by the end of the year , there are 70 m people to vaccinate , by dec , really ?

As for sweden , you cannot compare and not reading links you use to back your corner is annoying

As you were

It has to be vaccine.

I think that has always been the case and there is no viable alternative. Huge undertaking i give you but you cant go chasing herd immunity when it may never be reached due to changes in the virus.

What if there won't be a vaccine?

London would suggest it may be? Do you think so?
