Where as i have every sympathy with that catagory, it must be Terrible and would drive me totally mad... is there any need to impose that on the fit and healthy too?

People whining about not being able to go to the gym for a few weeks should try being locked up in the house for 7 mths scared to go out because you are in the vulnerable category and having no end in site to it.
Of course there is. If we impose restrictions that drive down infections then there is less chance for the vulnerable to catch if they do go out. There is general consensus in the scientific community that a vaccine is just 3 to 6 months off. Some people are so selfish they don't want to be stopped going gyms, pubs, cinema etc because there tired of it. Boo fucking hoo. 7 and a half mths ive been in stuck in my flat all because i had an allergic reaction to a prescribed tablet 20 mths ago. Giving up some liberties is not an easy thing to do, i truly understand that but it is the right thing to do in the short term. If the vaccines fail and it gets to April then even i would agree that we may need to look at other scenarios. Whining about some restrictions they may benefit millions because you're a bit down or sick of it is selfish in the extreme. Some cunts on here would lock people like me away indefinitely just so they can have a kebab after they come out the pub later than they now can.

oh right. So because some people have to shield then we all have to suffer? Come on. It’s about taking the appropriate risks for your circumstances.

Wouldnt be easier if the 1% stayed in for another 3-6 months rather than the 99%?

I fully supported lockdown first time around. Infections were spiralling out of control and we needed to get a grip. Given what we saw in hospitals I think it was entirely sensible to lockdown.

The government had a responsibility to use that time to get a vaguely effective test and trace system in place (and we were promised something much better than that) and devise a plan for how the university year would begin in September. They failed us all spectacularly.

Instead they spent that time dishing out public money to people totally unqualified to implement the systems we needed and they prioritised the needs of student landlords in making sure term began, regardless of the consequences. Hundreds of thousands of kids locked into contracts, sent to all ends of the country to mingle in close proximity and then locked up within days and told they've behaved selfishly.

This time around, responsible pub and cafe owners are being scapegoated for the glaring failures in other areas.

It's been obvious for months and has been pointed out many times over that the government's intention right now if for us all to be shifting the blame onto eachother. Their failings and the lack of action are there for all to see. I don't feel bad for originally supporting lockdown (alongside a good support package for businesses affected). So don't blame people like me for this shit show, blame the people who are in charge of it.

Week on week, we are seeing huge decisions being taken by government that will affect millions of people's lives across different regions and they are not being communicated properly (or even at all.) Massive restrictions on lives being speculated about for days, and still being unclear with a matter hours before so called restrictions come into place. Government ministers, including the Prime Minister, incorrectly explaining rules after they've come into force. They are cultivating an environment where people are desensitised to grave nature of new restrictions when they're brought in and they are unable to explain any scientific rationale behind it. No wonder people are confused and angry. They have no idea how they're impacting the lives of everyday people and it's obvious they don't care either.
Very good post and sums up how I feel. We’ve had local restrictions since the end of July which haven’t worked. I believe anything they bring in now will be with us for months.

If the proposed new measures are to ensure the NHS can cope over the winter when cases of both flu and Covid are expected to rise, why don’t they use the Nightingale hospitals for those patients - or at least just the Covid patients?

IMHO that would have a twofold benefit in that it would ensure local hospitals could function as normal i.e. would not be overstretched (beyond the point that they usually are) and it would also isolate Covid cases from other vulnerable patients.

Or is that too simplistic?

Are they? Seen about 4 om the pavement in the last month on my travels through gorton, openshaw, Leve, bradford/beswick, ancoats, platting and town.

Maybe your area just is a bit common or disrespectful on this issue who knows, but bit hash to tar every place the same

I don't think it comes down to 'common', as all areas have always had their own existing litter issues.

All the districts are littered with masks, usually outside the smaller shops.

It certainly comes down to disrespect, regardless of class.

The average price of a house on my road is £475k and while Altrincham and Sale have major issues within Trafford and the lockdown, they have a massive populous and it doesn't take many to create the shit in the street.

Come on mate be reasonable here. Your situation sounds really shit and in sure there are thousands in the same shoes, but it is not logical to shut down businesses with virtually no risk based on this. That's the point here nothing to do with selfishness, they are shutting things that have virtually no risk. Gyms being open is not going to make your situation any worse.

It’s not just because they’re tired of it. My wife is a teaching Assistant. She is 55. It’s really stressful for her going into that building every day.

We’ve booked a half term trip and this might be taken away from her now because they might impose essential travel only. A perfectly safe journey in our own car straight into our own accommodation. Much safer than travelling to school every day and being amongst 70 people in a confined environment.

Not worked because people have ignored the restrictions. Yesterday saw a large group of people playing an unorganised game of cricket. Must have been about 30 of them watching their mates all stood next to each other swapping phones, shaking hands, hugging etc. They will then all go back to their homes etc and then moan when they are told to not mix.

I wonder if there is a consensus of at least three things that should be shut? I’d say Universities and Colleges (easily done online, schools need to be open for adults to work), pubs and places of worship.

I'd concentrate on focused activities which we could do do to protect older people and those who are diabetics, or middle-aged and overweight.

1) Get fit lose weight. A bit surprising that this wasn't done over the Summer but of course public campaigns mean nothing without individual commitment.
2) vaccinate key groups. The UAE, Russia and China are vaccinating key workers. If the authorities have reservations about the UK vaccines, then contact the Chinese. A relatively small but targeted vaccination could make a lot of difference to the elderly who frequently need to go to hospitals for checks up treatments etc but don't feel safe to do so at present.

What's funny is, the government pushed this initiative fat shaming people in to losing weight to avoid the NHS being over burdened but the same government are looking to close gyms. They also pushed eat out to help out at various fast food chains..

Just heard they have lost our test. Asked us to get another one for our 4 year old daughter. Not a pleasant experience for her and may just have to not do it. Also means the mother in law with suspected dementia has to find her own way to hospital tomorrow for her cancer review.

Stuck in the house already for five days, I am angry at the incompetence. This is the NHS testing facility too.

It’s definitely getting messy out there now...seems the lid is boiling off.
What a fucking year.

Anyone half convinced we’ll eventually be naturally immune )given the low London figures now?) or do we desperately need that vaccine?

Excellent post really surprised no one on here has suggested Logans run style carousel with the contempt shown for those less fortunate than themselves.
Edit
For those not old enough to remember

Does anyone believe the public in the north (Birmingham and upwards) will be driven far enough to make them revolt and say "fuck it" we're not going to dance to your tune?
Pathetic if they do.

Nobody likes having their liberties impacted but these are horrible times across the whole country and needs everyone to pull in the same direction if we are to prevail.

Having pockets of the country rebelling serves no good at all.

No, but people are facing job losses based on uneducated decisions the govt are making. I don't agree with any form of revolt btw.

Your point is valid, but many of the fit and healthy are responsible for prolonging the agony by being irresponsible.
Everyone adhering to the rules would help significantly in the UK getting on top of things.
