Because the OAP's pensions were in danger. Apparently. Which was bullshit and the pension age was raised.
To stay in the EU only to be dragged out a few years later. Well...lol.
Scottish renewables sector would be decimated without vital UK funding. Which was withdrawn soon after anyway.
Investors would ignore an independent Scotland. Total bullshit.
Using the pound would be unfeasible - which the then head of the bank of England debunked entirely.
Manned border would be required. Like the one they don't have in Ireland.
Type 13 frigates would be pulled. 5 were pulled anyway.

And lastly not to mention. Boris Johnson. Not looking good is it? The SNP will publish each and every claim made at the time and how they were either complete lies or totally unfounded. I imagine this will make quite a few people rather angry. Not to mention we have had a few harsh winters since 2014. Demographics state the vast majority of the now 16-21 year old's are all pro indy.
 
If you want to hear a case for brexit beautifully articulated ask a remainer to explain why Scotland should leave the UK.
If you want to hear a case for remain beautifully articulated ask a brexiteer why Scotland can't extricate itself successfully from the UK.

In England we have nationalism - fat shaven headed blokes singing two world wars and one world cup - in Scotland they do nationalism. I'd like to congratulate Johnson right now for starting the break up of the Union by his inept bumbling corrupt leadership

I did but the currency issue seems to be as well thought out as the Irish border issue with Brexit.

People are passionate about Scexit and if a majority want to become separate, good luck to them but I strongly suspect the practical problems will make their lives a lot worse off.

Good luck to them if they do but I think Sturgeon should be honest to the North British electorate about the need for a prolonged period of austerity in order to build up the surplus that would underpin any new currency.
 
Nicola Sturgeon bids for EU support for Scotland's independence in an op-ed in Welt. The UK gov is 'turning its back on cooperation, consensus and solidarity'. Therefore Scotland 'needs an alternative way forward'

And - if there was to be a genuine Brexit and the UK is clear of being tied to EU regulations - along with a few years following that before there was another referendum - the support for independence would likely evaporate.

Oh - of course the feeling of nationalism and 'desire' to be free of UK rule might still be as strong/stronger - but when the clarity of what Scotland would have to do following such a vote to implement leaving the UK was provided to the Scottish electorate there would be simply no chance of a YES vote (unless it was a UK wide vote;-))

Just my opinion - but based on objective analysis rather than narrow spite

Just imagine the process.....

1. We negotiate first the WA and this would include the lump sum settlement

2. The EU would require the establishment of a hard border between Scotland and England - which would be wholly the responsibility of Scotland

3. Then we come to a TA with Scotland's exports and imports having such a dependency on travelling through England (and of course the importance of the English market) - and the sheer scale and cost of improving infrastructure

and so on

Sounds like a fun gig - shame I would be fully retired

Yep - Irish and Scottish nationalism - to be admired and lauded

But dare let an English person suggest that there should be even some semblance of recognition of English interests (a far cry from being nationalistic) - and..........

Even Sturgeon realises the reality that they will need handouts from somewhere else once they are off the teat of Westminster and become a sort of celtic Poland.
 
Not being part of GB or the UK not sure my opinion matters on this, but giving my self a much needed sabbatical from the Brexit thread, I do have a passing interest in the Scottish people’s views on this.

I don’t profess to have a desire one way or another in the Scottish Independence debate and even relating it to Irish Unity is grasping at something idealistic or notional in my view.
Not that I don’t see it happening but I don’t believe Irish unity is something that should be rushed into and not something that should be passed with anything other than a clear majority perhaps in the region of 60/40 north and south.

Anyway back to Scotland.

Whatever your views on the union, I find some of the arguments being given by non Scots as being remarkably similar to the Remainer logic in the Brexit thread. Pointing out the difficulties that will happen and telling them that they haven’t thought this through.
Hard borders and all. Their economy, the lot.

There are huge difficulties in leaving a union of a few hundred years. Well who knew?

These arguments are being put forward by the leave side of Brexit however.

All very strange.
