Marcus Rashford lobbying govt to help vulnerable children

I though Rashford only voiced his concern about 6 months ago so how does the consideration period of 12-18 months work ?

Again not knocking Rashford just asking how it took less than normal. That said Major Tom was knighted very quickly as well. Perhaps in special circumstances you can fast track.
Tom is 100 , couldnt wait for him lol

I don't agree with the honours system but if he does then i'm happy for him to get one. I think he did it for the genuine reasons and applaud him for standing up for something he believed in. Whilst he did have a lot of support he also had abuse for it online and still gets shitty comments on his timeline. When people comment about Sterling etc not getting one lets not forget that people do refuse them as well. L S Lowry always makes me smile I think he holds the record for refusing the most honours. I always imagine him thinking when will they get the bloody message!

I’m pretty much with on every word. Brilliant for Rashford and well done blue L.S. Lowry!

Marcus Rashford fully deserves this award. Anyone with anything negative to say can fuck off as far as I am concerned.

the guy is doing the best he can to use his profile for the right reasons and helping kids who otherwise don’t have a voice.
These kids look up to people like him and he is giving something back.

compare him to mason greenwood, Phil foden, jadon sancho and harry maguire.... the man is an inspiration and I can forgive him being a rag as I believe he comes across as a pretty decent human being

well said.

Again another popularity vote (and to make sure he was alive when he got it in
I think it is the political aspect that is an issue for me. He has a voice and has used it well no doubt. I know people who have done considerably more over a long period and get virtually no recognition. I will however think very highly of him when he refuses the award to highlight even more those who have and those who do not.
I agree he has made a difference and hope he uses his position to do more, well done Marcus.
He didn’t do it for an award, he did it for children who have norhing.
he should be very proud to accept it.
Anyone who thinks he shouldn’t accept it really need to get a life.

Agree he didnt do it for the award - never said he did. I dont begrudge him the award, but despise the system that awarded it him

The letter he signed drafted by the charity was dated 15 June not even 4 months ago. The weirdest thing to me is that he was awarded an honorary doctorate by Manchester University of all people just one month later on 15 July.
Usually these honorary degrees are for a life time's work and are D.Litt - Doctor of Letters - or in his case of a single letter.
I dont think that the woman in charge of the charity or everyone else involved got even much of a mention for all the work they have put in over a long time.
Its just just political patronage by a manipulative Prime Minister as advised by Dominic Cummings.

Fair enough
But to him this will be a huge honour and he should be very proud
The punk rocker in me says he should tell them to shove it.....
He did a fantastic job in telling the establishment they were wrong. Humiliated them. Now the establishment ask him to join the club.
I'd be like "on yer bike..... Just keep funding coming as i am on your case....."

Spot on.

I didn't say he done it for an award. I didn't say he shouldn't be proud.
I did say i don't like the political system that awards people who make the system look good, and doesn't recognise others.

while I do agree a little
The thing is the establishment will change from conservative to labour or whatever else Over time
What will not change is what he did for under privileged children during a pandemic
He doesn’t want to change the establishment, he just wants to make a difference to some children’s lives

One of the first headlines on BBC Breakfast was 'Marcus Rashford praises Welsh Government over free school meals' and calls on Goverment to do the same. I must confess that l wondered how his bootmakers keep up with him continually being too big for his boots.
But his heart is in the right place and there is no doubt his famous name has profited the charity.
After a small piece later on showing him in his primary school (not high school for obvious reasons) on comes a bloke who says as follows:
'The government need to form a task force with Marcus Rashford and the food companies about school meals...'
When asked that surely what the government would do is extend the current scheme into the Christmas holidays he said that was happening but the POLICY needed sorting out.
So it seems this blustering oaf thinks that the policy on part of the education budget in these uncertain times should be set by a young footballer and food companies?
I am a simple soul. I like governments and local authorities to make and apply policy on the matters they are responsible for. I like food companies to produce and supply food. I like charities to do their good work although l wish it wasn't necessary. I like footballers to play football and if they want to give their support and the use of their names to charity and some mixing of the above. But when someone mentions Rashford being involved in government policy.......

The buffoon who came out with the crap was the conservative chairman of the all party parliamentary education committee. No wonder the education of this country is in such a mess with this clown and Gavin Whatsisname as minister.

What he is doing is more for equality than the BLM movement, which is nothing to do with equality and all about superiority. He has put his power and fame to good use. It's not often rags get praised by everyone on here.

I don't agree with the MBE as it all comes across as a PR exercise for both Boris and Rashfords PR team.

However I hope he continues his political campaigning as it might get his fans interested in politics and want to get involved in changing things for the better.

This may not be the correct thread but please can someone remind me who is the bloke that left the BBC to become the media fellah at the Rags.

Who ever it is, he is doing a great job.

Neil Ashton, he didn’t leave the BBC he was a written media journalist who hosted Sky’s Sunday Supplement then left to set up his own media company with the rags as his first client. He’s a Palace fan
