General Videogame Thread

Does anyone subscribe to PS now? Seems to have loads of games on it, i did look at xbox game pass and they had some decent games.
Yes I do. I decided to jump over from ps plus as I don't care one jot for online gaming and they had a good selection too of kids games to keep them happy in lockdown. It's very good, you can pick it up for around £34 for a year subscription and it's got a great library of games.

That's under 3 quid a month for games like Control, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Metro Exodus, Days Gone. Resident Evil 7, Hitman 2, Bloodborne, Plus classic like fallout 3 and new vegas, the bioshock games and more. I platinum them and then move on.

PS4 and I think some PS2 games can be downloaded to your console or streamed, PS3 can be streamed only. Most games are there indefinitely, some of the bigger ones are for 3 months only. They add new games each month, usually around 6 in total and 2 of which will be AAA titles normally.

It's excellent value in my opinion. On the downside you don't get the latest games on release, like with gamepass, and the dlc isn't always included unless it's the complete version of the game made available, but for me that's not so important.

So do you just stream them then and not download each time? Game pass like you say seems to have bigger games like all of the Destiny 2 stuff etc. I’m verging on getting my ps5 and trying to make a bit on it and maybe just get a better pc and get game pass on there

You can choose either. I tend to download the games if I have space, just to guard against connection issues and potentially decrease loading times. If you download it's just one time, not every time you log in, the game is actually in your hard drive and the system just checks you have a valid ps now subscription.

That's said, when I have streamed games I've never had an issue. The kids like to play PS3 lego games on there and you can only stream PS3 games, and they run fine, it checks your connection before it starts the game for you and off you go.

I did pick up gamepass for pc recently for 99p one month trial, the games on there are unquestionably newer releases and I'd have kept up my subscription there too if it hadn't gone to 3.99 then 7.99 within weeks. Plus the 130gb for flight simulator, 80gb for Forza horizon 4, was killing my PC storage space!

Cheers think I’ll boot up the ps5 and have look I think with the ssd loading will be rapid anyway

Anyone seen the footage of assassin's creed valhalla? I know it's based in britain but seems to be lots of assets from odyssey and origins just repacked to me?

Lots of roman / greek style pillars in buildings (sure we have some but not so frequently!), and gameplay seems identical to the last two. Even tombs have the same shelve things to drag around, holes to squeeze in and snakes in pots.

Not saying it will be a bad game, but I'm thinking this might get a tonking for rehashing the same stuff again. Candidate for game selling for under a tenner new in 12 months time, imo, especially as there will doubtless be an 'ultimate' edition.

3 months on and Im still working my way through Last of Us 2. 42 hours clocked so far and still not finished. Got to be the longest game of this type ever. Great game, but still prefer the first.

That's too long.

That's ten viewings of Lawrence of Arabia and change!

Is the gameplay at least very good or is it just mainly padding for the story?

Too long? Never heard that complaint about a game before.

Zelda BOTW took me over 100 hours and still could do loads more if I want.

Yes it is slightly too long. The action is fine, but just a little repetetive in a game this long. But what makes it repetitive is the setting, in the first game you traveled cross country over the course of a year, so the landscspe and weather changed which kept the combat interesting. But this game mainly takes place in the same place over 3 days. Twice. So it feels repetative.
I am very thorough when playing though. Checking everywhere etc. So Im sure most gamers would finish it much faster than me.

Ha ha, I know what you mean. 150-200 hours I expected in games like Skyrim and RDR2, but 40+ is suprisingly long for a survival horror game.

That's about the going rate so a good deal, the only puzzling component is the RAM it's a bit on the slower end of DDR4 and Ryzen CPU's love RAM. That said it looks like a nice rig that'll play games in higher settings overall you got a deal.

I don’t know how you can be arsed posting in Resetera mate.

I like some of the gaming content, but let’s just say they’re easy to offend.

I always like seeing your avatar though.

Aye, it’s a big boy. I owned the PS3 phat before trading it in for a super slim, this thing is slightly fatter horizontally and about 3 inches longer vertically. Fucking massive.

I’m getting a Series S at launch and want a PS5 digital, but with that cheapo glossy plastic I’ll be stuffing the PS5 in a cabinet. Might get this one from IKEA for ventilation;

FJÄLLBO TV bench, black, 150x36x54 cm

Thanks haha and yeah I know what you mean.

I’ll probably hold out for the next model of PS5. Ive got a PS4 Pro so the games should be decent enough on there until they stop releasing on both.
