COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Some of that could be coincidence or just tenuous links. But the secrecy, obvious nepotism and clear lack of accountability later on in the article stinks to high heaven. Not good at all.

Too many coincidences and tenous links.

Does anyone believe that there will be a thorough and impartial investigation into this when the dust has settled?

My guess is someone will be thrown under the bus,but as is usual the rest will get off scot free.

If this is all true, then its frankly ASTONISHING:

The NHS, PHE and DHSC are top down bureaucratic organisations that couldn't run a piss up in a brewery. They simply can't deliver decentralised methods of working that are are required to fight the virus.
Thats not to say companies can do better. They can only do so with penalty clauses and bonuses on performance but the Civil Service can't deliver contracts like that either.
For example a test result in 24hrs should get a bonus. Beyond 48 hours = penalty clause. Beyond 96 hours = The company pays a fine.

New Zealand, South Korea pretty much. Quite a few far more succesful than us. As I said the reason nobody does it is it's far more complicated than it sounds,it's just a bland statement that is meaningless when you look down into what it really entails.
Cant compare either

No answer is there but my point remains... those that NEED to shield ... arent

I don't feel like being around next year.
Yes this has got me that bad
I hate work, I hate this pandemic and I hate winter.
A bit of well meant advice, if you hate work that's a third of your life being miserable. You're not too old to retrain. I see you're in freight but could you not retrain as a plumber or sparky or fibre optic splicer or something that will always be in demand. I was as shy and awkward as fuck but doing my job meeting with customers I had to get more confident. Don't waste your life in a job you hate, you're only here once mate

Scotland data first as usual and is a very bad day.

28 deaths. Most since May.

And 1739 cases.

Is anyone out there who was recently telling us that these things were not rising at concerning levels still thinking that? They seem to me to be very concerning.

1125 Glasgow, Clyde and Lanarkshire, some maybe from the weekend still, but can only see a very high level of restrictions being put on that particular area next week.

Sorry for politics but needs a response.

even if all that is true, the fact that the Gov skipped the tendering process and just gave contracts to "mates" is undeniable and unforgivable,

the track and trace system is a prime example. hundreds of millions to a mate to make the app and anyone with even a basic knowledge of apps knew from day one it wouldn't work. then A Tory MP running the whole track and trace system as a civil servant which demands impartiality form politics and yet still takes the whip form the Tories over it. And you cant even complain about it as the Tory anti corruption champion is her husband!.

the whole idea that what is being done here is for the best of the country just isn't right. there are far better placed people out there to do these things that get totally skipped over as the tendering process was skipped.

Even now the track and trace system is critically broken by not testing asymptomatic people who have been near infected

Obviously I’d just put the missus and kids in the chalet. I’ll be staying on the yacht.

Mate, I do think you must be mindful of your journey, I doubt you guys can get all the way down to Cornwall on a single tank of petrol?

So that means at least two stops somewhere along the way for petrol and piss stops?

That has to be a consideration beforehand, simply because of service stations and such?

Might not be what you or anybody else would want to hear but valid flag.

I do know the police's number plate recognition system has been working overtime in places such as service stations, under the bloody guise of vehicle emissions.

Yeah, right.

Other Scottish data today:

873 now in hospital (up 49 in day) and 73 ICU/ventilator (+4).

2 Weeks ago to last week to today data:

Deaths 1 v 15 v 28

Cases 1054 v 1429 v 1739

% positive 15 v 16.4 v 19.8

In hospital 319 v 570 v 873

Ventilator ICU 28 v 49 v 73

Nicola Sturgeon does say the new cases data is starting to show signs that the rate of increase might be slowing.

Too early to be sure that restrictions are working.

But case numbers would be the first change to point up positive news before hospital data and deaths.

The temporary restrictions in the central belt extended another week.

Nicola's scientist just noted that Europe has now passed 5 million cases.

5500 died globally yesterday.

France and Spain had over 34500 cases between them yesterday. And 480 deaths between them yesterday too.

But he adds the doubling time in Scotland is not what was predicted before restrictions. These restrictions are working. Just slowly.

What you are doing by following the rules we ask you to follow is not like saving a life at the roadside by giving CPR. It saves lives three weeks from now when those deaths that would happen don't happen because of your actions today. He adds.

This is how to explain things. Wish the English briefings were as clear.

Yeah, having slept on it we’ve decided not to go. Kids are gutted, but we felt it was the right/responsible thing to do. Hopefully we’ll get to rearrange it for next year.

Agree there should have been a tendering process for medium term (beyond month 3) solution delivery. Short term back in March/April it was untenable.

for the quick response on getting testing up and running agreed, we still should have used the NHS lab capacity too though, that was a baffling decision not too.

There are very few cases in Cornwall, most areas have a ‘suppressed’ category of 0 cases.
We spent two weeks there in September and, apart from Newquay, felt comfortable. Went to several pubs and ate out twice.
And that’s from someone who hasn’t gone to a pub or restaurant or had a takeaway up here since March 2nd.
