Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

The fact that we've allowed our manager - the man who by all accounts is absolutely central to everything we do from a footballing perspective - to go into the final eight months of his deal without any indication if he's staying or going really suggests otherwise.
I think it's incredibly unlikely that the hierarchy at the club is unaware of his intentions.

There's no benefit to withholding the information if he wants to stay, yet there are many negative consequences related to the uncertainty. It's clear to me that he doesn't intend to renew his contract.

So the club will be working hard on a replacement as we speak.

I think this season is a free hit for most teams. The players have families like all of us. During this world crisis they have more important priorities and you can see that during all matches. I don't think they will "take it easy" but they are humans and are affected by what is happening around them. A lot of them are also physically and mentally exhausted.
This season has a huge asterix and I'll take whatever we achieve out of it under difficult circumstances. Fans aren't even back in stadiums yet. Some people seem to be channeling their negative energy onto their football club. Covid isn't City's fault. Give them a break.
On a more positive note I think the team is in transition and, to some extent, a crazy season like this gives us more time to develop the new squad and possibly blood a new manager in the summer. I remain confident for the future, especially long-term.
Yes I agree that’s it’s a free hit more most teams this season but the media will decide which teams will get the free hit.
We will not be one of them for obvious reasons and will continue to get slaughtered at every opportunity.

I disagree actually, I don't think anyone besides Pep knows for sure. If we knew he was staying he would've had a new deal by now and if we knew he was going he probably also would've had a new deal - a la Manuel Pellegrini in his final season. The fact that he doesn't have either suggests to me that Pep hasn't indicated either way.

Or that the club are yet to decide wither way (in terms of what it is they want hin to sign up to).

Clearly not... I think there's approximately 0% chance Pep has told the club he wants to re-sign and we're not sure yet.

I disagree. Certainly with 0%.
We are both making assumptions on what is available to us.

In some ways, hardly relevant, as is the speculation that the club is desperately waiting for him to decide.

Please stop with this 'nobody is bigger than the club' nonsense.
Whilst obviously true, used as a criticism against Pep, its redundant because not once since he's been here have I ever had reason to believe that he thinks he is.
Its another lazy cliche that has no merit. You can file along with 'busted flush'
'been found out'
'hearts not in it' and my personal favourite..
'can't see what everyone on bluemoon can see'

He doesn't think he is bigger than the club and I know of no one else who thinks he is.

Sometimes things just run their course and it isn't a value judgement of either party.
This.

Did he give us the best football we've ever seen? Yes.
Has he consolidated or strengthened since then? No.
Will he ever achieve success for City beyond these shores? Unlikely.
Is he raring to embark on a swashbuckling renaissance? Doesn't look like it.

So thanks a million and let's move on.

Personally for me to feel comfortable with Pep extending his contract, I want to know that he's willing to learn from his shortfalls over the past season or so.

A lot of our issues are currently his doing, with his team selections, setup and insistence on shoehorning certain players in this side when there's little to warrant it. We haven't been able to just keep things simple and do what we do best, everything feels like it has to be laboured and done the difficult way.

Things aren't working and I want to see some progress on him trying to fix these issues. At the moment, I'm not seeing it, just a reversion of his decisions that caused us a limp finish last season.

One of City's (and as a wider CFG model) first and foremost aims is to play attractive football. What we've been serving up recently is anything but. It's come to a point where I rarely actually enjoy our games, not just because of the mixed results, but because of the glaringly obvious weaknesses or reasons for us underperforming not being addressed week after week.

I, as a regular fan, can usually tell when we're either going to drop points or make it a hard time winning by looking at our line up announcement an hour before kick off. Why can't the best manager in the world see that after watching this team be so inconsistent over a long period of time?

Pep's been phenomenal and if he feels that he's on board for the long haul and can turn things around, sign him up, but I do worry the club are blindly going to try and get him to extend even when it might not be the best course of action for us if his heads just not in it any more.

I feel like we need a balanced view and our results and performances have been poor for far too long for this to now be a short term issue that can be ironed out easily. For me, things are coming to a natural end and unless we see a dramatic insurgence of form over the next couple of months going into the new year, the club need to be taking a pragmatic view over the course of action, rather than signing him back up just because he's Pep.

Sums my feelings up perfectly.

Wow.

I guess we aren't ready for a grown up discussion about Pep. Mad Mancini vibes in this thread. Shame.
There are some, and you only need to read the Pep thread from when he first arrived, that have long held predudices against Pep. They had to bite their tongues for a couple of years now they can let loose. There are genuine things to discuss. But it won't be a sensible debate because of those that have been waiting for their chance.

I guess this would be relevant if Pep wasn't the reason that Pep might leave at the end of the season.

I've still not seen anyone call for his head - but I've seen plenty of people who feel that he should commit to the club or admit he isn't staying.
It was meant for posters who say "pep is finished" "his tactics are outdated" "Pep is out of ideas" "pep should be sacked".

However I agree if pep doesn't sign a long term contract then we move on. World doesn't end there As simple as that.

Very tiring all round. I cba with a lot of the opinions on both sides of the fence.

I really want pep to stay, yes we are going through a rocky patch but we’ll get through it & start turning the heat up.
Wouldn’t want poch, in my honest opinion, he’s not good enough.
