Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Will it!?

How do you know?

FWIW, I doubt what Pep does hinges on what Messi decides but I'm damn sure the reverse does apply.

Argue the toss as much as you want, but the realism of him coming to City is to work with Pep again, how many times have you heard this banded about in recent months, loads, unless you've been on the moon.

No Pep,no Messi or vice versa,I think you'll find loads are thinking like that as well.

So in answer to your question,I don't know,I'm just picking up on serious vibes, and general thoughts

FWIW I couldn't give 2 fucks either way really, but it's a far more plausible suggestion than what others are saying

Getting tired of hearing Pep moaning about the workload for players, it's like a broken record after every game and is his ready made excuse when we play shit. Nobody is sympathetic Pep not when they're still earning their ridiculous weekly salaries, they've not had to take a wage cut. Yeah, we do play too much football and if you're that concerned about burnout let's give the young energetic players more of a chance, you know the ones you discard after one match if they've not played super well. Delap, Palmer and Doyle, there's three for a start, just give them a run of games please.

I'm sorry but your comment about what players earn is one of the most ridiculous cliches trotted out by supporters etc.

You've just admitted that the players play too much football. What players earn is totally irrelevant and anyone who thinks it is just does not understand.

The sports science is clear and Pep is perfectly entitled to raise the issue for as longs it persists and Pep is clearly under no illusion that it will persist. However, it needs to change and therefore people, like Pep, need to keep talking about it.

Why?

And why the hell should it?

If he wants to extend and stay and rebuild great!

If he stays because he promised Messi, that's very wrong and unacceptable.

Well on that basis then, resign yourself to the fact he be gone at end of this season then,he has stayed longer than he does anywhere now anyway,so the end is nigh...............unless Messi comes,we shall see

Clearly Sterling hasn’t really improved his shooting or finishing all that much since Pep came in.
Hmm, I think Sterling has some way to go, but I don't agree with this statement.

In Pep's 4 full seasons at City his goals have been:

'17 - 10
'18 - 23
'19 - 25
'20 - 31

So he's definitely improved. But it's fair to say, with the number of chances he has, he could be hitting ridiculous numbers like 45 goals a season if he was more clinical.

I think the rest of the team need to chip in with more goals. Foden seems to be doing this, but Mahrez, Silva, Gundogan, Jesus, KDB etc have to be adding a few goals each as well.

I wonder if the club would consider giving Pep a sabbatical?

(not sure who takes over for the next year...)

Seems like he probably needs a year to chill out, have a few glasses of wine and enjoy the Spanish sun (or NY or wherever), before coming back to take the reins again
Why can't jobs be like this? Just take a year off to "chill out" and come back when you feel better. That would be something wouldn't it?

I would like him to stay, but he looks like a man who has had enough.

His demeanour is so different from when he joined us, his enthusiasm is not existent these days.

Of course Pep is better than both. But people are struggling to accept that he is not producing his top coaching form at City any more and hasn’t for quite some time. He’s a world class manager but both City and Pep need something new. He is still quite rightly in the conversation for being the best manager in the world, but that doesn’t mean we are not in a situation where the right decision is to part ways. We are.

Hits the nail on the head for me. Pep can still be the best manager in the world, but if he isn't as effective in year six of his tenure as Julian Nagelsmann would be in year's one through three of his then we should make the change. Manager fatigue is a real thing, the same messages and methods fall flat after a while. Sometimes things just run their course and it isn't a value judgement of either party.

Please stop with this 'nobody is bigger than the club' nonsense.
Whilst obviously true, used as a criticism against Pep, its redundant because not once since he's been here have I ever had reason to believe that he thinks he is.
Its another lazy cliche that has no merit. You can file along with 'busted flush'
'been found out'
'hearts not in it' and my personal favourite..
'can't see what everyone on bluemoon can see'

After the shit show he conjured up against Lyon I wouldn't be so sure.

I think you've mistaken my post.

I have no faith in his ability to get a team performing in Europe anymore. It's seven seasons now where he's struggled at key pressure stages and doesn't have the answers. Can't see him turning it around unless he changes his approach markedly.

Lets' just hope that time is now. 8 points out of 15 possible is simply not good enough, and we could very well be out of the title chase if this continues for a few weeks.

Or maybe this will be a season we "take it easy", where we consciously do not go for glory. It would surprise me though, if that was within any professional player's or manager's DNA.
I think this season is a free hit for most teams. The players have families like all of us. During this world crisis they have more important priorities and you can see that during all matches. I don't think they will "take it easy" but they are humans and are affected by what is happening around them. A lot of them are also physically and mentally exhausted.
This season has a huge asterix and I'll take whatever we achieve out of it under difficult circumstances. Fans aren't even back in stadiums yet. Some people seem to be channeling their negative energy onto their football club. Covid isn't City's fault. Give them a break.
On a more positive note I think the team is in transition and, to some extent, a crazy season like this gives us more time to develop the new squad and possibly blood a new manager in the summer. I remain confident for the future, especially long-term.

The fact that we've allowed our manager - the man who by all accounts is absolutely central to everything we do from a footballing perspective - to go into the final eight months of his deal without any indication if he's staying or going really suggests otherwise.

Subliminal? Inferring from a lengthy piece of text more meaning than what's on the page isn't deciphering sleight of hand, it's a product of comprehension. Apologies as I may not have the Oxford education of some here but there's a difference between even roundly criticizing a coach who has presided over and directly contributed to the greatest era in football this team has ever had and dubbing him "the bald fraud" when the team isn't soaring. As to the quotes you are attempting to call me out on... I stand firmly by them: to expect perfection seasons on with the departures of talent we've had, injuries we've sustained and conditions both logistic and otherwise that this season is being played amidst is greedy and petulant- pitifully so. As well I am f'ing sick of the whining and lack of respect displayed by some when I look back and remember the recent bright period we have been gifted which I firmly doubt possible with another coach.
I don't get it.
If you're so fucking sick of reading opinions and it pisses you off so much, why in fucks sake are you on forum where people give opinions ?
Id like pep to stay for another 10 years but it doesn't bother me if people don't feel that way. Why the fuck should it bother me ?
Doesn't make sense you being here pissing yourself off reading opinions you don't agree with.
It's almost as mystifying as the team selection v Lyon.

I think those who need to know, do. As fans we would obviously love to be kept in the loop and it's frustrating but none of that has me thinking he's bigger than the club.

I disagree actually, I don't think anyone besides Pep knows for sure. If we knew he was staying he would've had a new deal by now and if we knew he was going he probably also would've had a new deal - a la Manuel Pellegrini in his final season. The fact that he doesn't have either suggests to me that Pep hasn't indicated either way.

I'm sure plenty of people think along the same lines as you. I've no problem with that view I just disagree. Neither of us know for sure, it's all speculation so no biggie.
