Harrisburg is the capital of PA, Philadelphia is our largest city followed by Pittsburgh.
Once did a quiz on a coach tour of America with a mixed bag of people from all over the place. The tour guide gave us a sheet with the States listed alphabetically on the left and the capitals listed alphabetically on the right. You had to write the capital next to the appropriate state. My wife and I managed to get 48 right mainly by first of all doing the ones we knew then racking our brains for the rest. We came second to an American couple who managed 49 correct. I asked how was that possible as you just had to put the final capital against the blank state, they replied that they had actually used one capital twice against two different states. The state capitals are sometimes not the city you expect.

From the Guardian.....

Joe Biden is not declaring victory in the presidential race ... but he is displaying a very high level of confidence by launching his transition website.

“The American people will determine who will serve as the next President of the United States. Votes are still being counted in several states around the country,” the website’s homepage, at buildbackbetter.com, says.

“The crises facing the country are severe — from a pandemic to an economic recession, climate change to racial injustice — and the transition team will continue preparing at full speed so that the Biden‑Harris Administration can hit the ground running on Day One.”

Although the Democratic nominee has emphasized every valid vote needs to be counted, his decision to launch a transition website is clearly meant to signal he views his declaration of victory as all but a formality at this point.

first transgender president then.

A percentage (or percent) point increase is different in statistics to percentage increase.

This is a quick explanation:

This is unnecessarily absolute no?

In the example you gave me, if I said Trump was 4% up I can't imagine people would assume that Trump had 104% of the votes Biden did, as opposed to having arbitrarily 4% more of the total vote at that point. I mean that's precisely what I did, and I'm semi decent at maths.

Actually, I've seen in enough anti-City articles over the years with this distinction over percentages being misused to form a narrative. I'm a believer now.

I've learnt though, thanks. Until you correct me again :p

trump has 8.9% more votesbut 4.2 more percentage points, it is more than 100% different.

No he has 8.9% more than Biden, relative to Biden. Relative to the total he has 4.2% more.

I get why they do this. There's room for misinterpretation using %.

They have done it in UK elections too since at least 1987, it is what it is called in maths and stats world wide, certainly not an american thing.

And as above, as there's clearly room to misinterpret what % more/less means I'm satisfied with the usage of percentage points. Thank you.

Just now on SKY an election official saying votes from Troops serving overseas have until Friday to arrive.

Bidens lot need to go big on this and claim Trump is denying forces personnel serving their country abroad a vote.

I had the audacity to suggest corruption via the mail vote. The last election was compromised by Russia. Why can it not be comprised by the democrats? The whole election is a farce anyway.
It wasn't audacious, it was ill-informed.

Yes it was. They're still having laugh at the gullible.

They don't need to, more people have legitimately voted for them.

Diddums.
