Tricky night for him tonight but never went hiding and never stopped looking for the ball. Will be a good lesson for a player willing to learn from them.
Many big moments to come from this young man this season

Don't think he's ready to really command a deep lying position. Still has a ways to go to be ready for it.

Poor game by his now expected standards, but he never hides and he never shirks responsibility,he always gives 100% to the cause and no one can ever ask for more.

Eleven players with his enthusiasm and attitude and we'd be unstoppable.

This 100%.
A big European night for a young man. Pep should give him a big smile and a pat on the head with some positive reinforcement and he will only get better.

He was very hard on himself as he left the pitch, you could see the disappointment and frustration......But hopefully it hasn't dented his confidence, and like you say, thats where Pep steps in,as we need him on Sunday

My only thinking is that Pep was paranoid after what happened against Lyon, and didn't want a repeat of it.

I'm not sure I agree with that, but it's the only way I can make sense of it.

Nice of Pep to get him to put his kit on and leave him on the sidelines. Needs to start against spuds.

Ironically, given all the abuse Gundogan's got, it does seem like it's De Bruyne that's keeping Foden out of the team more than anyone. Which obviously is ok to an extent, because De Bruyne is De Bruyne.

Fortunately, Foden's still going to get plenty of games, and he's still going to get better and better.

I feel like Pep sees him as a winger or as one of the 10s that can play, but given KdB is our starting 10, that means Foden can really only get time on the wings.

It's a shame because Rodri and Gundogan just hasnt been effective, Bernie and Gundogan at the very least if Foden isnt playing.

Or play KdB a bit deeper and let Foden play more like the 10, but dont think Pep likes that.

I would have brought him on instead of Bernardo to replace Torres. For whatever reason, Bernardo is no longer a creative force in the side. Bringing him on for Torres was a case of replacing one winger who had done nothing, with someone unlikely to do anything. Foden destroyed Robertson last season and should have been given the opportunity to do so again.

We've too many slow coaches on the pitch. I don't really care where Foden plays but we were crying out for him. For whatever reason Bernado's had it, I dont' accept an 18 month old Tweet is the reason, so Phil should have been on.

We all recognise Foden had an horrific 15-20 mins mid week but one of the reasons it stood out is becuase it was completely out of character. Not like he's missed a penalty or given 2 penalites away already this season....

We won't win the league this year, we are miles off so best to get him playing and mayne a couple of others as well. Inm addition, he's one of our few players who can actually kick the ball properly and finish

Yeah.

Unfortunately the best midfield for both Foden and Bernardo is one without De Bruyne. And even despite his form you just can't not play De Bruyne.

You can't play De Bruyne and Bernardo because they like to play in the same areas, and you can't play De Bruyne and Foden because they're both too direct. You play Bernardo and Foden and then you've got balance, but then there's other issues and again no De Bruyne.

I'm sure Foden's going to persevere somehow. Hopefully in a year or two he's developed the wisdom to play a bit more like Silva would have.

I think Bernie and KdB can still play together because although Bernie likes the RCM more, he can still provide balance and control in the LCM spot and partner either Gundo/Rodri by providing energy in midfield. I'd argue its probably our best midfield 3.

That being said, I'd also like to see a kind of 3142/4132 formation introduced because I think Ferran and Jesus can make a great partnership up top, and you can have:

Cancelo, Foden/Bernie, KdB, Sterling behind them.

Basically the same as our 433 but swap Ferran and Sterling and only let Sterling involved in the final third, and let Ferran be more dangerous centrally, which he is more than Sterling because he can dribble.

Also let's Cancelo just own that flank because he has really improved, supported by Foden or Bernie.

I don't think that's happening with Pep, but I would also like to see something like that.

He can still operate well wide as he drifts inside all the time. de bruyne was crocked and carrying a bad ankle, Sterling was having one of his off games. He should have been given 15 minutes Replacing one of them and change the game. I can’t think of a single reason why he didn’t get that opportunity.

I had no issue with him not starting together he had a poor game last time out and I think it was a toss up between him and Torres but I would have said he was a great option to bring on for 20-30 minutes to inject some energy into the team as the game slows through tiredness and to add something different, Liverpool tired badly, we had kdb carrying a bit of a knock and not playing all that well, sterling completely anonymous and Jesus just back from injury, he could have replaced any of them and made us stronger going into the last third of the game but to not bring him on at all is baffling.
