He's had more chances this season. He is now established as part of the squad and not everyone can play every game.

As I say, part and parcel of being a pro and I'm sure he fully understands that

Yeah or he's started to resent watching others being toss week after week and not being held to the same standard.

Hopefully you're right but I wouldn't blame him.

Not sure where this is coming from. Particularly this season. The boy has one bad game and he is suddenly inconsistent? Less consistent than Sterling? Mahrez? Kevin? Cancelo? I'm not seeing it.
No it's not just one game. This is based off months of watching him since he's started to really establish himself.

In that period the players you mentioned showcase streaks of form, good or bad. Foden isn't streaky, he flutters between good and bad unpredictably, like any very young player does. And it's noticeable because when he's good he's great but when he's bad he's real bad. No in between. Hence, erratic.

Always appreciate it when someone falsely makes assumptions though. Thanks.

Most of that post is guff but that’s utter guff.

Flutters?? Streaky??

Fair point.

My counter argument would be that those other 4 players (Sterling, Mahrez, KdB, Cancelo) the poster mentioned as being inconsistent are also basically playing the same position most of the time (I don't agree that Cancelo is really inconsistent), while Foden keeps playing between LW, RW and Attacking midfield with Pep unsure where to play.

If I may chime in, I think this is a Foden AND Pep problem, and not really down to Foden alone.

Yes, Foden has to improve, he sometimes is TOO eager and has to learn to just control the midfield like Silva, which will take time. But... unlike Silva and more like KdB he is more of a numbers guy, goals and assists, which is almost the opposite of whats needed.

One might argue that why can't KdB in all his maturity become the "controller" with Gundogan as he should be more discplined than Foden, but Pep wants KdB to create and be risky because he is elite here.

If Foden can learn to combine the best strengths of Silva and KdB (he is closer to KdB than Silva) over the next years, he is basically the best player in the world imo (after Messi retires).

Fair enough. Care to tell me how I was wrong so at least I can understand it?
You said he is either great or really bad no inbetween. Tbf to the lad he’s had one bad game the other night and that wasn’t ‘really bad.’ He’s been no less consistent than anyone else including KDB this season

if only he chose to sit deep and play safe 5 and 10yd sideways balls all game he would be regular starter. Oh wait he cant do that as we have someone who does that already. Perhaps he could play on the wing predictably cut inside all the time and shoot only with his left foot while ignoring all his team mates he might stand a better chance of securing his position. ummmm.

Foden's biggest problem is he is not one of Peps favourites.

Phil will be top 5 player in the world, no doubt!!! But, he's young, he's still learning to play as a midfielder in a pep team. This isn't a lfc/utd midfield where you either watch the ball fly over your head or you chase the ball down. Hes the main defensive and attacking cog. He needs to learn to slow it down and control the game. Master the pass before the assist. I said on a different post hes a maverick, he's like the Mike tyson of footballers. Everytime he gets the ball he wants to hurt/kill the opponents, whether its forcing an assist, shot on goal or slalom dribble. If he could take a breath on the ball and at times slow it down he would be pushing Kev for best midfielder in the world in 2 years.
Best midfield dribbler since gazza
Best under21 midfield scoring rate since Lampard.
2nd best vision behind kev.
Only kante has a higher work rate.
If he could control a game like silva he would with more experience be the greatest midfield player ever. The kids Miles ahead of Gerrard, Beckham, lampard, etc at the same age.

But he's still a kid, he's going to throw some stinkers (bad games) in. He's going to disappoint as much as he delights. Enjoy his evolution because we are going to go through it again with mcatee, another superstar.

An interesting take on the situation. Despite being a Liverpool fan who has had his say on City in the past, you can’t deny that Coady is a fantastic professional who gives his all and is truly dedicated to being the best he can. That can only be a good thing for Foden to be around.
