Ray Clemence RIP

I’d forgotten about Phil Parkes, and there was also Jimmy Rimmer, who was another fantastic ‘keeper from that time.
Parkes and Rimmer were both fine keepers as was Paul Cooper who won F.A and Eufa Cups with Bobby Robson's great Ipswich team of the late 70s/early 80s. Paul's finest moment though was being our keeper in the 5-1. An astute signing by Machin in 88/9 promotion season, had a couple of runs in the team when Dibble was injured.

When he got annoyed with his defence he always shouted "what's goin on "!?
Veering off at a tangent here (sorry); that reminds me of a game at Molyneux in the very early eighties. We were 3 or 4 down before HT and people were shouting at Big Joe "what the fuck's going on Joe?". To which he turned around to us and shrugged his shoulders as if to say "I'm fucked if I know".

Anyway; carry on.

Believe he was battling prostate cancer for a few years , and finally lost the battle very sad news , detestable disease , he was a great keeper in an era when we had Shilton , Big Joe , and Clemence , R-I-P.

RIP Ray Clemence, sad to see yet another great player I admired from my childhood pass away. As others have said, there were so many great English keepers back in the 1970's, which cannot be said today. He always got a good reception from City fans in the North Stand where I sat, as did all keepers back in the day (except one club).

Sad news... as many have said top keeper and apparently a sound bloke. From the reports he’s had a huge fight with cancer. God bless him and condolences to all his loved ones.
