Fantastic news too on the hospital data updated two days to today.

England patients 13, 626 to 13, 591 to 13, 364 today. Two successive falls. Last Friday was 12, 538 - so only 826 up in week.

And Ventilators 1242 to 1241 to 1241 today Down 1 over these days.

Even better news from the North West too.

Patients Down 2983 - 2942 - 2781 - now over 100 less than the wave one peak. AND it was 2947 last Friday - so a fall of 166 in the week.

And Ventilators Down too 254 - 244 - 240 - it was 280 last Friday so a fall of 40 in the week.

It really is looking like a corner turned by all the indicators in the NW.

Who knew restrictions work..

England: 1.0 - 1.1

East of England: 1.0 - 1.3

London: 1.0 - 1.2

Midlands: 1.0 - 1.2

North East and Yorkshire: 1.0 - 1.1

North West: 0.8 - 1.0

South East: 1.1 - 1.3

South West: 1.0 - 1.3

The government has made a clear effort to reduce the amount of data and slides presented in these briefings over recent weeks, and have focused primarily on hospital patient figures.

Medical director Stephen Powis says the current figure is 14,479 - a rise of about 1,800 in the eight days since he last appeared at a news briefing.

He adds that recent days have shown a "levelling off" but stresses it is too early to draw any conclusions.

Todays briefing , the rest is here

London meanwhile has risen to 1441 patients and 233 on ventilators almost caught the NW in days.

Midlands rose then fell but has stayed at 3088 where it was so now over 300 more patients than NW. And ventilators 281 - 288 - 290 so now 50 more than the NW.

Yorkshire patients happily fell too but at 3196 still over 400 above the NW. Ventilators fell 1 to 246 but again still more than NW.

There was a 'plandemic' in the supermarket earlier mouthing off at anyone and anyone about 'flu is worse...98%...' as he put his shit lager through the self checkouts.
Despite the staff being polite with him, members of the public were clearly getting wound up.
These are rare to be fair, but they share common traits.

Some genuinely believe masks will be compulsory forever...
I must have been so lucky these last 8 months or so
I havn't encountered a non mask wearer ranting etc
I'm a mild man
But i would blow my top with anyone big or small if I ever witnessed that behaviour

My wife would disagree with that scrote, maybe he'd put his money where is mouth is and
volunteer for a 12 hour ITU shift without full PPE

Anyone know why the BBC news keeps mentioning over 22,000 cases today when the Gov UK data clearly shows 20, 252?

Must admit I really like the way Prof Jonathan Van Tam delivers his statements, doesn't come out with platitudes, says it as it is and provides analogies that we can all relate to and understand
Over!
I find JVT a lot more authentic and relatable than Whitty. Probably why he’s been wheeled out a lot more frequently after Whitty and Vallance lost a bit of credibility with some of the public with their ridiculous graphs a few weeks ago to justify the lockdown.

Speaking of Whitty and on a positive note, the Guardian is quoting Hancock as below

Hancock said he has grown “more and more confident” that life will be closer to normal by spring.

He said: “Chris Whitty [the chief medical officer for England] has said he hopes that we will be able to get back more towards normal by the spring.

And with this news we’ve had over the last few weeks and with the expansion of mass testing I’m more and more confident that he’s right.

Regionally

London 1908 down from 2540.

Midlands 3038 - down from3233

North East 1439 - up from 1290

Yorkshire 2711 - down from 3029

Sadly North West rises a little today from 2673 to 2886. But still lower than other recent dates.

North West: 0.8 - 1.0

South East: 1.1 - 1.3

South West: 1.0 - 1.3

Tier 3 is mainly responsible at this point. North West now lower than the South East and West. All went into most recent lockdown at the same time and they have continued to rise. Proof to me that tier 3 should be the most they put in place.

Check back around 9 pm for the GM scoreboard as I have a Zoom thing for next two hours (not Covid related!)

But the news is most places up a little - but not a lot. Only Manchester over 200 - though it is the biggest riser. And the usual two sub 100.

Oh and Blackburn up a lot and after adding 200 pop score in last coupe of days is the first in the UK to enter the 6000 club!

Back later.

You need to back that up with some links.

there are reporting blips over the period due to the number of bank holidays, there is always a dip and a spike which could be hiding the increases you say never happen.

View attachment 5593

incidentally there are even websites and scientific papers dedicated to "why do I always get sick over Christmas".

Oh look - There's a dip on week 52. I wonder what could possibly cause that?
I don't post bollox on science.

If you don't agree with the doom and gloom merchants then you're a denier. They can't see anything other than the stats the media put out each day and seem to forget that there are thousands of people dying every day of something. There are those on one side who want us locked down, schools closed and to not leave our houses and on the other side those who think it's all a scamdeminc. Most rational people are somewhere in the middle but that doesn't wash on here with some.

it’s called conditioning, on both sides. you get your mob who denies it even exists because they watch to much YouTube, and your mob who are government droids. Sensible middle ground is the way forward. Everyone be socially aware, if you are at risk and have symptoms take care of yourself, eat right and isolate, if in a few months you won’t be able to buy clothes for your kids work ffs. The government are taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

Cannot get my head round people not wearing a mask. I want to ask them if they are exempt, and follow it up with is that from Covid?

I cannot get my head round how many people don’t wash their masks ever and constantly touch their faces.

Only thing I'll say about the stats showing supermarkets are spreading it, is that it seems to me an awful lot supermarket staff are in the age range most likely to be asymptomatic, and not really motivated to get a test if they do have something up, because they're paid hourly. Test them, once a week. Owners should pay for the testing, and sub them during self-isolation. Fair price for a PLC to pay for the right to stay open when all other shops are shut. They are about the only sector whose profits are unaffected by COVID.

Some shops have made more of an effort than others, for sure. Tesco and Waitrose feel much safer than Morrisons. For one thing, they don't let you roll up with four non-mask wearing schoolkids running around.

I've practically given up figuring out what measures might help tho. It's not so much sledgehammer for a nut, it's sledgehammer where you need an array of rubber mallets, ball peens, sockets and pliers.

Most businesses don't give a shit as long as the tills are ringing.

My brother in law works for a major car manufacturer. They have been told to turn off track and trace at work as their work bays are less than two metres apart but are segregated by perspex. Self isolation by staff has resulted in disciplinary proceedings upon return!
