Same here. I was a full time carer for 14 years so have had the flu jab (and pneumonia one every few years) for over 20 years. Including this year. A mildly sore arm for 24 hours maximum (or both arms when I had the two last year) is the most I have ever experienced. Though often not even that.

I think if you expect it to make you ill then it will because part of all illness is psychosomatic.

Its also a myth the flu jab can give you sniffles. It has no live virus in it. The thing is people have it at the exact time of year when sniffles are becoming common and you normally never give them a second thought as they last a day or so and go away. There are bound to be people who have the two things within days by complete coincidence and would have had the sniffles without the jab.

Now that all these Covid news stories are focusing minds this false belief will create many many more stories of coincidence = conspiracy from those who have read them this year I suspect.

Not saying this about any of the posters here. But we know it will happen because people are expecting it to out there - so it will and Twitter etc will be full of scare stories with little basis in reality.
I look after my 87 year old Dad (cooking, shopping, running him around, no pay!!) so take any preventative aid offered. I have had Covid recently and thankfully I didn't spread to my Dad, he should be in the first group of vaccine recipients and I will be in the 6th priority list but as I have the antibodies I'm really relaxed about it, however I would urge everyone to get the vaccine ASAP, not just for themselves but for others they come into contact with, it's a no brainer and a game changer.

Got a test at 2.30 - been in contact with several with it now confirmed and have a cough and sore throat now.

I agree 100%. I looked after my mum after she had a huge stroke and was unable to move and so needed round the clock care. But her fortitude pulled her through after many months in hospital and lots of adjustments to my house so we could cope. And she was able to enjoy all those extra years which looked impossible the day she had the stroke.

You probably have to have been in that situation as you were to understand how your own behaviour can impact others.

Though my mum did not live to see Covid she was in her 90s when she died a couple of years back and it has certainly crossed my mind what it would have been like. I know it would have been very scary. So it has made me far more willing to comply with rules and self isolation was something I knew how to do from those years.

There will be so many people out there - unpaid carers - facing these dilemmas. It is easy to forget them when your life is just focused on how it disrupts what you can do.

The selfishness of people knows no bounds. Heard this weekend of one couple having people around for food and then visiting elderly parent next day for lunch whilst another person who has only just buried one of his parents who had covid has decided to invite people around for a NYE party. Another couple going away to Wales with people from three other households. But they will want to be first in the queue for a vaccine when it's their turn. Astonishing behaviour from all.

Scotland data first up:

1 death - but as Nicola Sturgeon reminds every Monday - Sunday data means less registration of deaths.

677 cases at 6.7% positive. She also mentions cases are coming down in all main impacted areas and they are getting closer to the 5% positivity rate World Health regards as getting an outbreak under control.

178 in Greater Glasgow, 114 Lothian, 108 Lanarkshire - well down on what numbers used to be. There is now a wider spread but at a lower level. Much as is happening in England.

974 patients (that is up 23). Two day running now patients have risen in Scotland. After many days of falling. Need to watch where this goes.

59 on ventilator beds - which is down 3 and happily this has almost halved in a few weeks much as it is tumbling in England. (Though sadly not in Wales)

So true, I' experienced pretty much the same with my mum who died a couple of years ago. I take my hat off to full time carers, they are real heroes who put their lives on hold to look after others. Until experiencing a degree of being a carer no one can know how difficult life is, I'm lucky, my Dad has his faculties but that doesn't stop him being a cantankerous old bugger!!

Thanks as always HP. Note that the % positive week on week has risen again from 6.1% last week to 6.7% today. As you rightly say, worth keeping an eye on.

France has warned that it no longer expects to meet the target set to come out of the restrictions they imposed in late October. They set that as 5000 a day to end restrictions for Christmas if they got there by 15 Dec.

But as of the last two days they were still at 11,000 and 12,000 cases and scientists are warning of a third wave in January caused by Christmas and New Year relaxations of rules if they are not low enough by then.

Rumours in the media in Wales of strict measures including a 9 pm to 6 pm curfew on citizens. Though government denying it.

But admit they have serious problems. The health minister recognises it is the only part of the UK heading the wrong way and that it is an 'incredibly serious situation' that may have been because their measures were less strict than other parts of the UK.

In Wales only 3 of the 22 local authorities are NOT seeing cases go up.

And the Pop scores (as in cases per 100,000 people) in the two worst are over 600 (Neath/Port Talbot) and over 500 (Blaenau Gwent) with 6 others having a Pop score over 400.

For comparison with GMs ten borough Pop Scores to see why Wales has such problems:

A month ago Oldham was over 700, 5 other areas were over 500 (Bolton, Bury, Rochdale, Salford and Wigan) And only Trafford and Stockport under 400.

As of last night the highest Pop Score in GM were Bury and Rochdale at 224. All the rest were in the 100s and Trafford was under 100.

Gove suggested that this isn't being used as an "immunity passport". However Zahawi mentioned it's likely pubs, restaurants and other entertainment venues may request as proof. Pretty shit for those who are at the back of the queue..
I agree, but I think it's a good idea.everyone is going to have to one or pre tested before flying out on business or holiday, maybe even holiday in the UK also,
As for the entertainment venues that doesn't matter to me.will stop all these who say their exempt from wearing one because they cant be arsed, or the c.nts once they've had a drink walk around without their mask on,
But the last one to get it will be the younger ones,

I’m fully expecting someone to die from the vaccine (with some sort of other health related issue that won’t make the headline) and sky to do its usual big yellow box ‘breaking news’

Wales even worse than yesterday 2021 cases from 16.6 k tests. New record for any nation bar England.

2 deaths.
