For me part of the issue is Pep speaking and saying he is our David Silva heir.
This I think has made people expect him to play all the games David would have played if he had been here.
As it is this must be Pep’s/ the clubs plan however they don’t feel he is ready to be able to control the game in the way Silva did and that Gundogan at present is best suited to this. Possibly as he takes more risks etc.
So he is fighting for game time with KDB (centre attacking), Sterling (left), Mahrez (right). You then have other players such as Torres, B.Silva who are also fighting for these places.
The game time in itself looks like it will be a fair bit higher then last season and he is trusted in big games, so I think this season will be an important one for Phil but next 2 seasons will be the ones he becomes a mainstay.
