Such a demand? For who?

I do include his CL starts but starting in really shit CL games as this season's have been shouldn't mean not starting in 6 league games. There is no reason at all for this to happen with regards to 1- Foden's fitness and form and 2- the form of the players that are playing in front of him.
Such a demand by fans to play more games. This is because he has been managed to become a potential star in a team of world-class players. That he stands out, often, when he becomes on is because of his talent AND that he has been managed well; the two are the reasons for his elevation to the level he now regularly displays.

But we are talking 6 games in a 70 game season. I will be very surprised if he does not feature in at least half our games and I hope he does. I really rate him, we just have a slight disagreement in how often he is played and who against. If he keeps performing each time he is selected, he becomes impossible to ignore.
Over the season he will play a lot of games.

It doesn't take away from what is happening right now.

Btw I have never before questioned the way he's been brought. I'm questioning what is happening, and why, right now.

I think the West Brom game will be a good indication of where he currently stands. A home game against relegation fodder just 72 hours after the Utd game, it would be worrying if he doesn’t start that.

For me part of the issue is Pep speaking and saying he is our David Silva heir.

This I think has made people expect him to play all the games David would have played if he had been here.

As it is this must be Pep’s/ the clubs plan however they don’t feel he is ready to be able to control the game in the way Silva did and that Gundogan at present is best suited to this. Possibly as he takes more risks etc.

So he is fighting for game time with KDB (centre attacking), Sterling (left), Mahrez (right). You then have other players such as Torres, B.Silva who are also fighting for these places.

The game time in itself looks like it will be a fair bit higher then last season and he is trusted in big games, so I think this season will be an important one for Phil but next 2 seasons will be the ones he becomes a mainstay.

If you do not doubt that he will get lots of game time this season, why are you especially concerned with right now, when he is playing all CL games and regularly featuring in the PL?

So if you look at the stats for who has played this year, there is no issue here imo.

This includes PL and CL games only, starts and total minutes played:

Ederson (15) (1350)
Rodri (14) (1218)
Raz (13) (1158)
Kyle (12) (1060)
Dias (12) (1060)
Kev (10) (909)
FFS (10) (870)
Cancelo (9) (840)
Phil (8) (789)
Gundog (8) (712)
Bernie (7) (664)
Torres (8) (658)
Gabby (6) (568)
Mendy (6) (509)
Stones (5) (464)
Laporte (5) (437)
Ake (4) (379)

Ok, Injuries play there part in these stats but they have mainly been to defenders and Kun/Gabby and wont really impact on wether Phil is selected or not. He is getting a fair crack of the whip.
I disagree, simply because he is consistently better that Mahrez, who has many more poor games than good.

Mahrez has played 81 more minutes than Phil. It isn't a great deal. We all want Phil to be the real thing, it is just about how quickly it happens but mentally and physically, a young player of his talent does need to be nurtured. I am willing to put faith in Pep, who clearly sees a lot in Phil.

81 mins isnt much i agree but Pep seems intent on trying to make our biggest ever buy Mahrez work out rather than play a player who clearly offers more to the team.

Pep played Phil as an 8 against Leeds and Olympiakos and those 2 were some of the worst games he played for us. I guess the discipline needed to play that position for us will come with age for Phil. Or maybe he’s actually destined to play further forward? Who knows.

I think he is intent on winning. I suspect this is as much about some people's feelings about Mahrez than a specific issue about Phil.

Looks like Pep agrees with you, at least to some extent, see his words on MEN about how he and Foden see things now and in the future.
